Title: Trump's "Helicopter Pressers"
Post by: kbvette on March 08, 2019, 07:29:08 PM

Roaring Turbine engines in background, a sense of urgency ,Air Force 1 waiting to wisk the POTUS away to save the world ?
Nah, just jetting off to ML to sink some puts. These Helicopter Q and A, are very weird indeed,on several occasions POTUS asked Press members
to SPEAK UP,I cant hear you ! I shouldn't be surprised Sarah Sanders prefers to do "Driveway Interviews" instead of actual Pressers w Q and A
Odd way of communicating with the American people to say the least.

Lol. He’s communicating with the press, not the American people.  I think it’s pretty obvious by now that he has a low regard for the legacy press and see’s them as biased.  Most American people agree with him according to recent polling.

Actually, thinking about this more... if he didn’t allow the press to ask him questions on his way to the aircraft, the same press would accuse him of being inaccessible. Lol. Oh well, if it bothers you don’t vote for him and renew you subscriptions to those legacy press outlets.

I'm a democrat, but if I were trump I'd create a new "fairness" credential standard for news networks so if they want to be able to have the credential and be able to legally call themselves a "news" network they have to demonstrate that they present both sides of stories. If they fail to do so they can only call themselves an opion based network or editorial netowrk which is what they clearly are and it amazes me how many trump haters cant admit this when its beyond obvious.
Networks like CNN and MSNBC would hate it but it would force them to be honest and not deceive many ppl who dont realize they are only presenting one side of the story when it involves politics. Before ppl jump on fox and say they do the same thing, at least they have ppl on that station that hate trump too, but I have never seen anyone reporting for CNN that likes or promotes trump. This isnt about whether you like trump or not, it's about allowing news stations to get away with being 1-sided, highly biased, and then lieing to viewers when they have the audacity to say they are fair and balanced. If you hate trump yu may not care today, but tomorrow if they do it to someone you like then maybe you will understand.

When a President makes a public address, he's speaking to the public. When a President repsonds to a member of the press, he is speaking to that reporter.  Seems obvious enough to me.  The public address doesn't have the filter of having a biased question asked by a for profit enterprise.  Now, the press often likes to arrogantly assume the mantle of asking questions on the public's behalf.  If you feel they are honest and trustworthy, perhaps they do speak for you.  They do not for me, and by polling, do not for the vast majority of Americans. "To think otherwise is asinine and ignorant".

That would literally be a violation of the freedom of press.

Meanwhile, Democrats have just barred FoxNews from any Democrat debates...

We used to have a version of this called the fairness doctrine.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FCC_fairness_doctrine

The basic problem with the legacy press is that they fundamentally don't understand what their product is.  Their product is not the business of reporting news and current events.  Their product is building trust in their consumer base that they are a trustworthy source of information.  News stories come and go. Trust is a product that is extreemly valuable in that it takes time to build and is very fragile.  Any reporting that undermines that trust undermines their core product and can jeopardize the future of the entire business.  That is why the press made such a mistake in being so openly biased in their reporting on President Trump that Trump could reveal it. Trump understands what his product is, and what the press's product is, and he's encouraged their self destruction by enticing them to openly go one on one in political advocacy. The veneer of their impartiality has been destroyed.

The international new media journalists on Youtube and elsewhere who understand that trust is their core product are growing quite successfully.  That's why it's ridiculous to so many observers when marketing slogans for old media come out like "Democracy dies in darkeness" or when they rail on about their self righteous roles as arbiters of the truth.  The machine has lost the ability to control the narrative and is desperately trying to regain control through online regulation and speech codes (especially here in Europe).  They may be able to regain control, but it'll be much harder to for them to regain trust.

The fairness doctrine violates free speech. So that's not a solution to this either.
