Sid's Vega
« on: March 08, 2017, 01:17:10 PM »

This is a picture of my grandmother the day she bought the Vega.

The car is a 1975 Vega wagon and she bought it in 1977.   She planned on trading it in on a new car in 1988 but I told her that I wanted it and she gave it to me.  I've had it ever since.

Much more to come, Phil

I drove the car for a couple of years and decided that it had to have a V8.  I found a mild built 327, turbo 350 trans and posi Ford 8 inch with 355 gears and got to work. The car ran great but was just a little hard to keep straight on small tires so I decided to store it until I could afford to build it right.  It's was in storage for a long time.

This is how it sat in storage for about 20 years.  About 6 months ago I pulled it out and began the build.  It started by stripping the car down to the rolling shell.

This is where it starts getting good.  :D

WOW i haven't seen a Vega in a long time. Looks like you had a clean car to start with. Looking forward on seeing pix of the build.

love that wheel offset. :) and the Ford rear ends are tough as all h3ll...but personally, I like skinny tires on the rear. makes it really easy to slide sideways thru non-populated corners...I have destroyed my share of differentials.

how do your suspension components look like, and setup? and do you have enough oil filters :)?

Front suspension is Mustang II style with SPC double adjustable upper arms and Ridetech strong arm lowers. I'll be running a Howe 3 piece sway bar with Afco coilovers all around.

The rear is a custom built 3 link with a Griggs performance watts link.

Brakes are all Wilwood.

I'll upload more photos later.

I am not a car guy, but have to say I think that this restoration of a car that your grandmother gave to you is a very cool and admirable thing.  It is a great story.  Good luck with your project and many years of enjoyment when you are done (if one is ever truly "done" with a labor of love like this)
