Here are some expanded rules regarding the upcoming Super Duper Grover Tourney

Registered players will receive an email shortly via the address you provided.  If for some reason you do not receive the email by Friday December 29, please contact me.

Style of Tournament:  This is an IFPA sanctioned 2 strike event with best of 1 matches with 30 players maximum.  Each player will play a Round in groups of 4 where possible or in groups of 3 if there are not sufficient players to create 4 player groups. ONLY LAST PLACE receives a strike. Process continues each Round until one player remains.

The groupings, player order and machine selection will be chosen by a computer program Matchplay Events.  The program makes every effort to group and order players randomly and vary which players are assigned to the available machines.  It is not perfect and some players may be grouped with previous opponents multiple times or have to play repeat machines.  Please do not ask for a regrouping.

Start time:  Players should arrive by 11:30 am.  Round 1 will begin at noon.  Registered Players will receive an email with the address.

NOTE: Players will not be added to the tourney after the start of Round 1.  If a Registered Player is running late for the start of Round 1 for whatever reason, let the TD know in advance via phone call or text and the player will be grouped in Round 1 as if the player were present, but that player will receive a score of zero for that Round and a strike.  If a player misses the first 2 Rounds, the player will be treated as not attending and their results will not be submitted to IFPA for WPPR points.

Round Times/Attendance.  After Round 1 which begins at noon, there are no set Round times, but it is important to make sure the Rounds move quickly.  Once all groups are done in a Round, the results will be entered and the program will generate the next Round which will begin promptly.   After a group finishes playing a Round, players should not start playing casual games on the side or leave the site. If a player is still involved in the tourney, but is absent at the start of the next Round, that player will be grouped as if present, but will receive a zero and strike for that game.

To ensure the tourney moves along quickly, do NOT continue playing if you know you are safe.  The format is such that you only need to score higher than one player.

Registration/Entry Fees:  Preregistration is required.  No walk on players. 30 players maximum.  The cost is NOTHING. There will be prizes for players 1-4. Ties will be settled as necessary to settle top 4 places.

Common Pinball Tourney Rules: The general common rules found on PAPA.org will be in effect. These are an abbreviated description of some of the common rules.

Malfunctions: If a machine suffers a major malfunction at any time, that game will be replaced with another game and a new 4-player match started for the affected players.  Since each Round is independent, no changes will be made to results from earlier Rounds nor will any games be replayed.

Extra Balls: Extra balls will be turned off or disabled where possible.  Plunge extra balls otherwise.

Playing out of turn:  PAPA rules will be in effect regarding playing out of turn in a multiplayer match. A player will receive a zero score and a strike.

Rulings: When in doubt, ask the TD.  However, common sense can be used if possible.  If there is an incident in a match, and there is 100% agreement among the players in that match that there was no infraction, continue play as normal. Note: If the players internally resolve the issue, once play continues, the incident will not be revisited by the TD.  If there are any questions, stop play and have the TD resolve the matter.

Game Setup:  Most games will be set up on factory settings with signs posted pointing out significant changes.  For example, virtual locks may be employed over the factory physical lock, or a game feature may be disabled to ensure more reliability.

Guests:  Sorry, but guests and spectators are NOT allowed.  Space is very limited. Please do not arrive with anyone who is not a Registered Player.

Miscellaneous: Water and soft drinks will be available.  Feel free to bring a bagged lunch if desired.  Smoking permitted outside only.

No casual games will be permitted in between rounds, or during other players' matches. There is no "tourney section" and "casual play"  section. Please respect the space around and adjacent to tourney players.  After the event is over, there may be time for casual play.

Player Conduct:  This is a private residence. We ask that you please treat fellow competitors, games and the hosts’ home with respect.  The hosts reserve the right to request any person to leave who engages in inappropriate or illegal behavior.

Big thank you to Jeff and Nancy for welcoming all of us into their new home and hosting a fun tournament. The games played really well, even with the Palmer tight tilts-- MOO! Happy New Year, and see you in Orlando on the 20th.

Danny,  there's a lot of.... Well badness in the world today. I see it in the court everyday. I've sentenced boys younger than you to the gas chamber.... didn't want to do it.... felt I owed it to them.

Love your new home, Jeff and Nancy! I had a lot of fun and way too many cookies. Every time I see your collection the only thing I can think of is how much you must love this game, and I guess it makes me love it a little more. Every game near perfection. And I don't care how light you make the tilts! Makes me want to go home and tighten everything up.

Steve Marsh out of nowhere in the last tournament of the year! Can you believe it? Good luck in a few weeks in the big match. John will be there too, so look out for him! Happy to see Joel come out and remind us how good he is, too.

And JEANINE! YAY! Keep it up for the ladies! Sorry I could not help us get into that Top 16 this year. I think it's your turn next year!

I apologize to anyone for any stupid or inept things I may have said or done yesterday (or any time this past year!)I love being with and playing with you guys and girls and hope to see you all again soon in 2018! Have a happy new year.

Thank you Norma for the kind words.  I do appreciate it.

Basically, my main goal is to promote competitive pinball in our state.  This event offered a fair amount of points which in turn provided ample opportunity for many players to advance in the SCS.  About 50% of the top 30 players in Florida were here for this last tourney along with many others to play in the last event of the year.  Many people out of town traveled for this event.  It was an impressive turnout. A LOT of things could happen.

The final points are not in, but the estimation is that with his win, Steve will earn about 17 points and advance to the State Championships.  There will be some very close people at the bubble line.

There was some stellar play by many folks.  Jeanine in particular played very strong.  Young Sebastian Vidal also did very well.  Watch for him.

I would suggest that anyone on the top 20 or so consider showing up for the State Championships, because things happen where people can't show, and the TD will just go down the list in order to fill slots.

Anyway, I am glad you and others enjoyed the event. :)

Look for more in 2018.

Thank you Jeff and Nancy for hosting the last event of the year and opening you new home to all of us pinheads!! I had a great time (even if I got bit by tight palmer tilts  :o). Look forward to the next event and hanging with everyone again. Congrats to Steve on winning and welcome to Florida. It was a great turn out of folks and I enjoyed hanging with the FLIPS crew. Happy New Year everyone!!
