Florida-potential "Super State" for 2018 SCS
« on: December 01, 2017, 08:22:41 AM »
Not sure if anybody realized this, but Florida is close to the IFPA Super State requirements for next year.

There are 2 parts:

1) 400 unique players (we had 396 so far)

2) 100 tourneys (we are in the 70s and there about 10 this month-with next year likely to,have more).

If we meet that in 2018 that will allow us to expand to TOP 24 in SCS. How cool would that be for many more players to have a shot at the State Championship :)

Wow, I've never heard of that. Do you know what states are considered super states. I would guess PN, Ca, OR?

Right now, none.  It is a new idea for 2018.  At our current growth we could do this in 2018.

This would be awesome!

OK, Cafe One could have a tournament every day until the first day of spring.

To be clear: This new idea starts in 2018.  So they could run events all year in 2018 to help out the cause.

Just following up on this.

Florida is currently at 343 unique players and 66 tourneys. We are getting close to the 400/100 mark.

Free Play Florida will certainly gives us a large boost in the unique player count, as will Ron D’s annual open house event.

Currently there are about 20 more scheduled tourneys and probably many more that will will come that have not been announced.

So what does that mean?

It is very likely the Florida SCS will expand to top 24 this year.  There are so many tournaments and ways to earn WPPR points, the top 24 field is wide open. The extra 8 spots makes a HUGE difference.

Watch for tournaments in your area and get in and play (the list is on the IFPA site).  Many are three strikes types events and are very easy to understand for new players.

Hope to see you at an upcoming event!

-Jeff

Glad to see Florida stepping it up!  Colorado shouldn't have more participants and tournaments than FL with 4x the population... but it does.  You'll have no problem being a Super State this year.

We keep seeing new faces at our monthly events. How can we help? To build the unique players number, do they need to flesh out their profiles at IFPA site?

You guys are doing just fine!!

When the TD sends in the results, if there is nothing on that player in the IFPA database, a player number will be generated. (Mine is 208 for example).  The player is then a “unique player”.

It is then up to the player to become “registered” by completing a profile page. It is NOT required, BUT  is essential to compete in the SCS or other IFPA Championship series.  (See the fine print in the link below).  So it would stink to earn one’s way in and not play because one is not registered. (I’d probably hear from Josh anyway about it)

I am very excited to see so much activity in our state.  Thank you for supporting the cause!

And in a few days, this is where we are:

371/400 unique players
70/100 tourneys completed

30 tourneys upcoming (so far)
