So the Trump era Presidency has broken your political spirit? Maybe it is you that has changed and find it a challenge to defend your
political views.

You know, I’ve asked myself the same question. The answer I came up with was no... i’m still interested in politics, but don’t think it’s possible to have as many meaningful conversations as I did years ago.  People are more polarized on both sides of issues and less open to hearing opposing views. The media is also far more open in their bias than at any other time during my lifetime, so discussion appeals to authority (XYZ reported blah blah blah) is no longer as useful or valid. Finally, the things that I see happening are either under reported or misrepresented, and few people are knowledgeable enough or interested enough in them to give me much discussion.

Lots of blame to go around on our current state of politics.
1st and foremost is the repeal of the "Fairness Doctrine" which required that any FFC license holder present both sides of an issue,I believe it was during the Reagan presidency?
2nd is the major prevalence of organized religion.....and their emergence in politics, too many people get their news feed from the Pulpit
3rd is the blurring of truth ie alternate facts, facts don't matter and according to Rudy G "Truth is not Truth"

I’m not in favor of the fairness doctrine. While the major outlets don’t provide a balanced viewpoint which often precludes a point of view I might agree with, I recognize them as profit making businesses that will either succeed or fail based on their earned reputation.  They’ve largely failed in my eyes.  I also don’t trust any organized government to accurately or adequately ensure fairness in reporting - better they stay out of it all together.

I don’t currently attend an organized religious service and that wasn’t my experience when I have in the past. Politics was never discussed. I agree it is discussed in some religions services, but couldn’t guess at how prevalent that might be. In my life, I’ve found it much more dominant in academia and on Facebook.

Truth is in the eye of the beholder. Just look at any contentious issue of the day. The best role of journalists in a free society is to attempt to be impartial arbiters of the facts.  Society works better when this is the case. Unfortunately, modern western journalism/media are regarded by a majority of the population (myself included) as being corrupt and untrustworthy.

The truth is that 'fairness' is an artificial construct, created by a child (or someone with a childish view of how reality operates), which is why you primarily see them complaining about it.
Don't blame me: I voted with the majority of Electoral College electors.

I would love to see that because it's how everyone used to behave, collectively complaining about the President, and discussion the policies and actions.  Now everything is personal.

Agreed. Lately We've just seen people call others Trumpers and MAGA trolls even though they have repeatedly said they didn't vote for Trump.

Aw,Your favorite "safe haven " response....I didn't vote for Trump, however you damn sure promote his agenda and policies
Funny,no one here admits or has the guts to admit they voted for Trump.

Where have I actually promoted his agendas? I really need to know this. Post sources.

99% of the time here I point out that either Clinton and Obama have done the exact same thing as Republican presidents and you guys get triggered and then spend the next 18 posts crying about it.

I mean just look at the immigration threads here. Look at just how incredibly man-child-like you guys act once someone points out Democrat deportations and immigration policies. You rant, get flustered, you cool off for a few days and start over. Rinse the diaper off and repeat.

Trump and Hillary were both unpopular with elements on their respective sides of the political divide for different reasons. The real question is how many voters who stayed home or didn’t vote for Trump will vote for him in 2 years and who will the Democrats run that will be an alternative. So far, Trump’s odds of a 2nd term are pretty good.

I totally voted for Trump and I'd do it again if I have to.

I don't like him but he was better than Hillary Clinton and there was no viable 3rd party alternative. It was really the election for somebody like the Libertarians to step up but instead they got I'm sorry, Aleppo? man.
