Star Trek: TNG pinball questions

What are your thoughts on this game? Is it more maintenance heavy than other games?

Yes, it is definitely heavier than most of the other pins in that era,  and the more you play it, the more cleaning and waxing is needed to keep it looking nice.

It's a 25 year old game with a ton of bells and whistles. Yes, in general you can expect  more maintenance than a typical pinball machine. Common issues are cannon harnesses, optos and the ball trough. I did own one and it actually was surprisingly maintenance free for me but I know that was a bit of an anomaly.

mine got "dirty" quicker than any other pin i owned...and it was dressed up in white rubbers. outside of the normal consensus, which it's a maintenance queen...

twilight zone needed more attention than other games i owned as well. and i don't really own newer stuff.

I owned one for about 8 years.  I tore it down top and bottom and cleaned and fixed everything in sight.  It was a monster of a game to work on, but I had relatively few problems those eight years because of the shop job I did on it.  But yes, cannon issues, and especially opto issues as well as the two Eddy sensors can be very problematic.
