What do you guys mean by rogue like games?

Rogue-like means it's a game like Rogue.  :D

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_(video_game)

Easier to understand if you're familiar with the old (classic) computer game Rogue.

It was a very early RPG and the map is generated procedurally and randomized.
It's a turn-based, overhead view game. Early versions didn't even have graphics, monsters were just represented by letters - T was a troll, V was a vampire, etc.

It's very hard, you're not intended to win 99% of the time, the random elements can give you great advantages - like finding a room full of treasure early on, a really good weapon or enchant, etc.
or it can screw you, but generating a high-level monster at a much lower level than usual, etc.

It's also a short game, you're expected to play through multiple times - many, many "runs" at the game. When you die you start over at square one.

Rogue-likes are similar to Rogue in some way. Nuclear Throne for instance is a different genre - overhead-view action game rather than turn-based RPG. However the levels, monsters, loot, etc. are still procedural generated, it has "permadeath", there's a lot of different loot to find, etc.

Then there's also Rogue-lites - those are games similar to Rogue in some ways, but usually in those you get to keep some of the stuff (gold, weapons, other loot) you found in one run and use it in the next. Generally a little easier and more forgiving.

I have not tried that one yet, no. I've got the first one, it seemed cool but I haven't gotten into it yet.
2nd goes from 2D to 3D right?

Add garbage and bums for the full NY winter experience.

I can't quit the games with snow!     Put in about 150hrs so far on Snowrunner for the PC.

Yeah, it's 3D now. I never played the OG, but this one was pretty fun.

I love playing video games. When I was young, not many people had computers. That's why I started to play when I was a teenager. Because I played soccer in real life, I decided to try playing Fifa. Initially, it was hard to figure out the controls, with too many buttons.

But after a month, I got the hang of it and played a lot of soccer. Every year I buy a new FIFA, and this year I purchased FIFA 22 at https://www.cdkeysforgames.com/consoles/fifa-22-ps4/ . Some of my friends think it's idiotic to spend so much money on a game that is not different from the previous version.

Been playing Fallout '76 a bit - but only because I got a free code for it. Amazon Prime was giving it away - might still be available, not sure.

Free is the only way it's even close to worth it. There doesn't seem to be a point to it other than level up to max (lvl 50) and explore the map.
There are quests, but kind of no "main" quest. Everything is an optional side quest. It has some bright spots but overall it stinks.
