RetroJax Weekend 2019 - a few pics
« on: March 11, 2019, 02:16:41 PM »
Jax Expo was a lot of fun! Thanks to everyone involved had a great time!

Here are a few pics

Boot Hill! Haven't played one of these since the very early 80s. The Chuck-e-Cheese in Brandon had one. Remembered liking this one a lot as a kid because the people turned to tombstones when they got shot. Can't imagine there are too many surviving today.

Firefox! Another rare one.. at least rare to see it unconverted. I remember these being around in '83 during the high mark of the early 80s arcade boom. Never could get very far without running out of fuel.. 30+ years later plays about the same :) Still very cool. Last time I saw one was a cock-pit at an auction in the early 00s. The video portion was completely dead so it just played the laserdisc. Rob kept saying 'working all the way' because well, it was playing a video and that was good enough. Can't imagine what a cockpit is worth now.

Moon Lander don't recall this one back in the day. Odd splice of Lunar Lander and Space Invaders of all things.. still pretty damn fun!

Speaking of something you don't see every day..

The Frogs was beautiful. Haven't seen this game since one showed up at auction about 10-15 years ago and went cheap. Might be the same one?

Bally Astrocade one of the few consoles I haven't really played. Nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Joysticks are terrible though.. very cramp inducing. Still awesome to see this.

I also enjoyed the toy show, that was a nice group to partner up with.

Yes there were also Pins. I was just in video mode with all the rare games. I'm still undecided on Munsters..

Finally.. Lasso The surprise hit of the show for me. Random early 80s game I don't remember but is actually a lot of fun! Who brought this in?

Anyway great show, looking forward to next year!

Lasso was one of my weird games (go figure huh?) and the Bally astrocade was also mine.  I'm amazed both made it through the weekend without the magic smoke coming out.

My favorite was also Boot Hill, was great to play that again! I think I remember a huger clunkier version iirc, were there two versions of it?

I never got a chance to play half of the killer vids mentioned in this thread as I was planning to spend all day Sunday playing, but my kids passed their sickness my way so I left early :/

Regardless I just wanted to say thanks to Brian for bringing Lasso and other oddities, the dude who brought Boot Hill, and whomever brought Frogs.  It's the oddball stuff that makes shows fun for me.  Thanks of course to all who brought stuff (bless you Miami guys for continually making the trip!) and especially the organizers.  While it's a lot of work loading a trailer or truck with games for a show, it's still 100 times more work for the boys doing all the work behind the scenes for months in advance.

Good times ^_^

I am always humbled by the generosity of the collector community for loaning out their prized possessions for these shows. Fortunately, almost every machine survived the weekend. We had to do a few small repairs here and there over the weekend, but I think the only game that we couldn't resurrect was my Mystic Marathon. I heard no one missed it.  :-)

Huge thank you to both the volunteers and the exhibitors. Without you, there are no shows!

Great photos, Jack!

Really cool to see a working Firefox.  I'm working on restoring a friend's cockpit version now, such a cool cab.
