See there's your problem.. had you bought the 2515CDS you'd still be fine.

These off lease systems aren't bad but I'd rather spend a few extra hundred and build something to spec.

I've got several HP Elitedesk I5s in the garage that I got from client sites for free, throw an SSD in and they are great machines still.. well not for gaming of course.

Those are actually new.  If you aren't a gamer, it's a pretty compelling deal, especially when they are offering coupons or extra cash back.  I think CPU+Ram+HD is worth more than $300.

The off lease stuff is pretty competitive if you don't need the latest and greatest.  That NVME slot is the gotcha there though I think.

Oh for fucks sake...

YES AMD Piledriver and Bulldozer based CPUs were slow power hungry space heaters. That being said my 9700k runs just as hot if not hotter than my 965 Black did, at an all core 4.8ghz clock I NEED a 280mm AIO to keep the thermals in check. Are the Zen series CPUs as good/fast as Intels? No BUT you spend twice as much for a moderate single core increase and below the 9900k Intels get smoked at multithread performance.

Lower prices for the chip and the motherboards make RYZEN tops in "Bang For Buck". If you are not building a screaming game monster they are perfectly acceptable rigs.

yeesh...fanboys

I'll Necro this thread...Let's compare.

Just grabbed a Ryzen 3600x for $199.99, average Cpu Mark is 20495.

My 9700k (OVER $400 new) Cpu Mark 17182

My 4790k (almost $400 new) Cpu Mark  11165

AMD has come a long way since the Piledriver days, Intel better pay attention.

Intel is fucked right now. AMD finally got their act together and is putting out decent chips at the lower price point.

I put together an AMD Ryzen 3700x desktop in early August and it has been great. Upgraded from a 3rd gen Core i7 - so 4 core/8 thread to 8 core/16 thread.

It has been great. Obviously the PC I was upgrading from was pretty old (2011/2012) so everything is an improvement.

Better performance in games, though only running a 60hz monitor so it's not too noticeable on games than already ran at 60fps+ (GTX 1080 video card on the old PC and just moved that to the new one, may upgrade in a year or two).

When the system is bogged down though, when I'm running a bunch of apps at once, with a ton of browser tabs open & maybe encoding a video at the same time, the 3700x doesn't even notice, where the old PC would definitely chug.

Finished the build, (itx is a pain in the ass what was I thinking?)  cpu mark was 21009.7

On a $200 chip and only running 3200 memory...Intel is sooooooo fucked for non enterprise chips this generation.
