Need Guidance on Arcade Games
« on: June 08, 2019, 03:29:44 PM »
If someone wanted to buy a NEW arcade cabinet with a ton of games in it already. What would you recommend?

Strictly needs to be new from a manufacturer.

Obviously the 1Up games are crappy, but wondering what you guys think are good ones that are more high-end?

from a manufacturer? tons of games? probably no one....license issues.

a nice williams cabinet with an ArcadeSD or a JROK is a solid way to go. you can find them "brand new" via eBay/Amazon.

i do like arcade legends, though...good bulk of games. nice interface, nice cabinet builds.

me? i have, and would find a decent arcade cabinet, put a jamma adapter on it (if it needed it), and xxxx-in-1 the damm thing. it's easy. it's bulletproof. and 99.8% of the world won't care about some emulation glitches.

then choose your multi-board goodness.

we're building one now in jupiter for a customer. had a bad multi-williams board upgrade kit in it, going to 138in1.

I don't think the Arcade Legends are still being produced. But i could be wrong.

If you absolutely have to have a new game made by a legitimate manufacturer.. your options are limited.

Lots of people will build you a multicade/mame that would be 'technically' new as an alternative.. but legit produced multicades.. the only thing I can think of is the Namco multi:

No clue on how much this would cost new. I've seen it in person and it uses an LCD and doesn't look that much better than the knock-offs. In fact I've seen some 'homebrew' multicades that have looked better.

"ton of games" and "new from a manufacturer" simply do not exist together.

Ton of games = mame
New from a manufacturer = usually 12 games or less

Should have been more specific...

Was thinking like 16, 32, 64 or more games.

You have some choices but most of these are no longer in production

Arcade1up (most of them run mame)
60-1 (which is just an old version of XMAME)
hanaho neo geo multi
Hanaho taito multi
Ultracade/Arcade Legends
Pacman Arcade party

My only comment would be to rethink the "new" part...

why pay for 3k retail for machines that are around used for less then half that.

Also the machines with their own hardware are expensive to fix and hard to find parts for... a 60-1 has very little to go wrong and if the board breaks its $50.

fyi.. any "good" arcade game is going to set you back a $1000 now...

the 60n1 boards are utter garbage , i would go with a good board such as a ArcadeSD, or build a dedicated mame hardware.. RetroPI even works if you don't plan on playing it for more then 8 hours straight.

yah but for casual people who would consider an arcade party or whatever the 60-1 is good enough usually...

Id rather have a 60-1 with a real joystick then that reunion style stick... it blows.

What about Suncoast? They are a Florida company so I assume somebody here knows something about them. It looks like they make nice stuff.

I guess it depends on what your definition of "nice" is.  :P

I think it would be nice to throw it off a roof.

Yeah, that pac is a little nasty :-[

You can get a real Pac-Man and put a 60in1 board into it and be much better off for half the cost.

I think a 1up Pac-Man wins here...oh, I just threw up in my mouth.  :P

Plus no way that's licensed..

If you are going the knock off route i'd get a nicer looking one. (Sorry Suncoast Arcade!)
