COVID-19
« on: March 11, 2020, 05:40:27 PM »
There are so many things about this that we could talk about...

So I’ll start off with the idea of a payroll tax holiday is really stupid. This has been floated by the Trump administration as a way to ward off the coming economic crash.  A payroll tax won’t help the unemployed. It won’t help those in quarantine or a hospital bed. It won’t promote people getting tested, getting treated, or self isolating. For a low wage employee making $800 a paycheck, it would be about $50 extra in their pocket, assuming they still have a job (which many won’t).  For high pay workers, it’s more meaningful, but are those the people who need the help?  There are real things that could be done to help mitigate the physical and economic damage this virus is going to do to Americans, but this isn’t it.

So far, the administration get’s a D- from me on their response.

Credit where credit is due, Trump did a great job stopping commercial air traffic from Europe. It’s raging over here and people would definitely travel with it to America.  On Monday, Germany had a little over 1k infected, as of tonight, it’s over 2700. This is with most of Europe being stupidly restrictive in who and when they test. Germany is Italy in another 10 days with hospitals that are overwhelmed and an economy in lockdown.

Yeah, but the virus is already here. Like putting up a "No Smoking" sign in a building that's already on fire.

I agree.
And let's be honest, if the figures are lower in the US, it's certainly bc of the lack of testing compared to Europe.
And sadly, the economic repercussions of this ban will make more victims than the virus itself.

Is it too early to say that the China coronavirus has claimed as its victim the call for open borders and unrestricted migration...?  ???

I don’t think most border wall proponents will have any problems with Mexico shutting down the border to keep us out. They absolutely should. As the world has rediscovered, borders are about controlling who comes in and out of your country.

A wall works 2 ways especially in a fascist state.

Anyone who is happy with the bailout and ready to give kudos to anyone needs their head examined.
That was a heist.

So is every country that shutdown their border now a fascist state?

What would you have done instead of the assistance bill?

Possibly.  Time will tell.

We're not even one month into this mess and all the industries that were doing incredibly well and the government (mostly Trump touting best economy ever) and we needed this type of bailout this soon?  This after years of cheap money flowing from the Fed to banks and corporations so they could do stock buybacks and give their directors insane salaries and bonuses?
I'm sorry maybe a I feel a little porked.  This money isn't free and adds to the overall debt or will affect buying power at some point.

I would have given more assistance this time to the people so the money can flow up rather than leave it to them to have it flow down.
Wealth gap and wealth disparity increased incredibly since the 2008 bailout.  I guess fool me once shame on you, but fool me twice shame on me.

So here is a link comparing the modern novel viral outbreaks:

https://www.healthline.com/health-news/how-deadly-is-the-coronavirus-compared-to-past-outbreaks#So,-when-will-things-calm-down-with-COVID-19?-

The takeaway: COVID death rate will probably be lower than the flu because so many people who are affected show little or no symptoms. It is because of these same reasons that they expect more people to become infected. You have infected people walking around spreading the virus where in the case of Ebola if you were infected you were really sick so you had far fewer people spreading the virus (that's what caused it Ebola to die out).

So the COVID itself is not more transmittable, It's the fact that its symptoms are pretty minor for most people compared to other viruses is why it's spreading efficiently. The funny thing is the article states that the best defense against COVID is: "it’s going to take herd immunity — which basically blocks out the virus when a large chunk of the population is immune from already being sick— along with an effective vaccine." So how exactly how are we doing the "heard mentality" thing by trying to keep people isolated ???

Looking at the list you can see all of these viruses are unique. I'm not seeing that COVID is the end of days virus, it appears that the world is having a massive overreaction to essentially the same event that has happened in the past and absolutely will happen in the future.

Floridians need to wake up and realize that the Florida Corona outbreak is all thanks to New York and its idiot officials for allowing two infected New yorkers to travel to South Florida.

for every infected person that travels and made the news, there are 1000+ you'll never hear about, that did the same thing.

corona has been here a lot longer than the media is reporting.

i wouldn't go to new york if it was the only clean state in the country. :P
