Loose legs/ stripped leg bolt holes
« on: January 24, 2011, 05:54:26 PM »
Anyone have any suggestions for a game where one of the leg bolts cant be tightened because the hole appears to be stripped (top left leg bolt)??

Makes the game too easy to push around and tilt too easy, even with the tilt not set that tight.

I was thinking of adding leg protectors to tighten up the gap a bit to see if that helps..

Anyone else ever have this problem or know of a decent fix?

just get new plates that fit on the inside of the cabinet, unscrew the metal plate from the inside (can be a pain if its the back legs) and replace them with new plates and bolts, might as well do all four if you plan on keeping it or your a heavy nudger :P

curly has them at 6.50 each

ah OK.. duh

for some reason I thought the way those were attached to the cabinet made them a royal pain in the ass to replace..

Maybe I should look first before I ask questions huh?  :P

they can be a pain to remove, remember when you lift the playfield to turn the machine off first :P

I think there are 2 sorts maybe from memory? with different hole patterns, so check first

No worries there... I used to work with mainframe computers and large printers way back when and was semi-electrocuted enough times to never mess with anything plugged in or on.

I may try and cheat first and try to use a nut on the inside to see if that stabilizes it enough. The problem is on the left front and there is a bunch of other stuff in the area I would have to worry about knocking into or removing to get at the plate properly...

I'm not above a cheat fix on this one..  ;)

The nut will typically stabilize it enough for most purposes.  The real issue becomes if you take the legs off the  machine to move it, you need to lift the playfield (if in back) to get a wrench on the nut.  But, if you do not plan on moving it much, the nut/bolt approach should work.  I also note that there are some difference in the leg mounting bracket depending on era and brand of machines.  The ones Mick showed should work for any recent Williams/Bally/Stern game, but would not for some older solid state games.

Washer and a nut did the job at least until I feel like taking it apart...

I found three of them that were a bit suspect.. I did a search on RGP and it seems it was a pretty common problem on the game (TZ).
