The Official Welcome to the Village 5.0 Post!
As I've sure you've all noticed by now, after about dropping god knows how many hours during a few sleepless weekends -- the board has finally been upgraded and moved to the new host.
Please take a second to read this post as some of the changes may affect the way you use the board.
Major Upgrades+ Now running SMF v2. This is fundamentally similar to the version we were running (1.1.6) but there are quite a few new features.
+ Tapatalk integration now enabled. Point your tapatalk client to
www.villagebbs.com/forum + New host! Finally! It's costing a bit more but after a few minor hiccups things seem better and faster. No 11:30 blackouts! No Viagra spam!
Feature Upgrades+ New theme. If you don't like it, you can change it to the smf default (profile -> modify profile -> look and layout)
+ PSN, Xbox Live and Steam Member ID info added to posts, this can be set in your profile.
+ Location added back to posts, this can be set in your profile.
+ Major video auto-embed restored (youtube, etc). As before just post the link, the board will do the rest.
+ New anti-spam and anti-hack measures enacted (hopefully we'll be more secure)
+ Edits are back! You can edit a post up to 2 hours after you post it. All edited posts will be marked with an 'edited by..' tag.
Quick FAQ about the new system:I keep having to login! On the new system it defaults your login to about 10 hours. You can set it to always keep you logged in. To do this simply hit 'logout' then INSTEAD of using the login box, hit the login button. From the login screen there is a checkbox for "always keep me logged in" check that and you won't have to login again (as long as your browser cookies remain)
I hate the new theme! You can change it (profile -> modify profile -> look and layout)
My avatar is missing! Avatars were stored in the attachments folder. I weeded out all of the large attachments (anything over 200k). If your attachment is still missing it must have been really large and thus it wasn't transferred over.. sorry!
Feel free to choose or upload a new one.
Where is the chat room link?! It's back. I had to make a few changes to get it to work friendly with some other features. For those that haven't been to our chat room check it out, you can access it via the web link above or from your favorite IRC client. People are usually lurking so give a few minutes for a reply when you first login.
Attachment sized now limited We no longer get unlimited space on our new host so space is somewhat limited. You really shouldn't be uploaded large files here anyway. Please reduce your files to a web-friendly level (at which point a picture should easily fall under our limits) or use a web photo sharing site like photobucket or flickr. You can post as many off-site hosted pics as you want without limitation on size.
Donations! This board has always been a labor of love and I've only rarely accepted donations but people have been constantly asking so I've put up a 'tip jar' (accessible on the menu above) so you can donate against the hosting fees. Certainly nothing is expected but if you'd like to donate it is appreciated.
That's all I can think of for now. There is still some work to be done but i'd say the majority of it is now complete. We'll be rolling out some exciting new features in the upcoming weeks/months so stay tuned! The adventure continues..
