Advertising and Local Involvement
« on: April 22, 2011, 10:34:25 PM »
Lo All,

So I was thinking about advertising and some of the media outlets we have that are around here.

I think one of our major areas will be local newspapers.  UCFs Central Florida Future has a huge readership, and is also seeded all around local UCF businesses.  Ads in the paper are relatively inexpensive, and I'm sure we can contact one of the editors to do an article on the event.

Next up would be FullSail - not sure if they have a newspaper but I'm sure they have some sort of event community around there.

Some of the businesses I know of who should be open to the idea of a flyer/poster would be:

Next Level Lan (near FullSail)
Hard Knocks (not a huge fan of the place but it is gaming)
Play N' Trade (there are a couple Orlando locations)
GameStop

----

Please keep adding areas and ideas.  This is just off the top of my head.

1) Email your members of the board you have a base of 500+ people here that are mostly regional.
2) Create flyers
3) Create a site that will collect contact information easily from supporters. Email them a lot.
4) Facebook Event Page
5) See if Tom or Jeff the guys that had articles written about their hobby in Tampa can contact the people that interviewed them (as it gets closer to dates) so they can point to the event editors, and/or maybe do an article about it.

Great ideas!  A flyer is in the works.  Yes, please keep letting me know of local places that may agree to have flyers out.  Also, if anyone that lives in the O-town area and wants flyers let me know.  I'll work out a way to get them to you.

For #5 - Do you remember what paper this was in?  I think Six has the contact information of a local journalist that contacted him about an article in TBT (was it TBT? can't remember) awhile back.  We can contact that person as well.

TBT is a great idea, as is Creative Loafing in Tampa (do they have one in Orlando?) Also try the Orlando Sentinel, Tampa Trib and St Pete Times (they may use the story as filler in some of the weekend editions.)

Flyer is done and will be available on Friday.

PM with your information if you would like some to distribute.  I can either drop off (if local) or mail (if over in Orlando, etc.).

Thanks in advance for all your help guys and gals!

Flyers are here and gorgeous.  I'm giving a big shout out to Bamboo over at Sonic Print (www.sonicprint.com) for the printing.  Thanks so much for your help!

On the way home, the car was convinced there was someone in the passenger's seat.  It kept beeping at me about seat belts.  :)
