Title: So this was fun...
Post by: rockmang15 on July 27, 2011, 09:03:18 PM
I love my Tron LE.  So happy with my first NIB Purchase.  I've had a few hiccups like all the other owners, but I've kept my mouth shut for fear of jinxing things.  So check this, I get the update today pop it in, I'm super pumped, I update everything.  I take the glass off to just clean and wipe because it has seen alot of play these last 2 weeks.  I'm holding the playfield glass in my hands, safely on both sides like I always do, haven't even put it down....

dude that sucks.  Tempered glass is the right thing to do but man just a change in temp or the slightest tap can pop it :(

luckily it was away from the machine, so no damage to the playfield.  Threw on a piece of glass from another machine, but it's just not the same! :(

Man, all these problems people are having with these Tron machines, when is Stern going to tighten it's belt?   ;D

lol, on a side note. Prok is there a secondary lock on the playfield to lift it? Or is mine just really really really tight?  Wanted to fix that LED flashing issue today.

That sucks dude! Good thing it was away from the PF. The same thing happened to a 'Fun House that was near a TRON. Could this be Clue trying to break though?

Yikes. That totally sucks. Could be worse. I had a really nice original FIREPOWER backboard explode in my hands the same way.
Marcel is my witness. I just took it off the game and was holding it. The heat from my hands was enough to make the thing just bursting my hands. Scared the crap out of me too.  I just stood there in total shock looking at pile of little pieces.  Marcel was like .. OH SHIT DUDE!  $250 to replace the  BG.

Friggen Tron..  That wouldnt happen on a CV.  :P

Thats sucks... I have an arcade game right behind one of my pinballs and literally wacked the glass on it last week when I was pulling it off.

I was shocked it didnt break. I stood there fully expecting to be picking up glass all day.

unfortunately when you are in this hobby for more than a few years it is going to happen eventually. You will also have those "I can't believe that didn't break!" moments. I worked briefly making sliding glass doors and just imagine holding a double sheet of glass that size filled with gas, it is quite impressive when it pops. On the positive side at least it wasn't a hard to find piece and doesn't have any graphics on it.

Man...... bummer. I know how you feel. I had just gotten my Whirlwind and removed the glass to clean the playfield and POW!!!!  the glass exploded in my hands, cutting my leg on the way down. Then the glass popped on the floor like Mexican jumping beans for about five minutes. At least obtaining new glass is not hard, tempered, cut to fit for about 35 bucks from my local glass guy.

yet you can hit it with a sledge hammer, then stand and jump on it with 200 pounds and it won't break.

You mean you didn't get the Tron Super LE pin, with touch resistant glass?  I think that one sells for $8,500.  Please don't complain to Stern, or they may start shipping games with plexi glass, at the same price of course.  :)

Or actually, you have that reversed: "You can stand and jump on it with 200 pounds and it won't break, THEN you can hit it with a sledge hammer".  I suppose you can do it your way, but I wouldn't recommend jumping on the broken glass.

That vid was pretty cool though, saves me the trouble of playing around and expirementing with doing that for myself...damn it.
