Title: Star Trek Discovery Shake-ups
Post by: number six on June 19, 2018, 08:52:49 PM
Quote
Star Trek: Discovery has gone through a bit of drama lately as the showrunners of the series, Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts, were recently fired due to the abusive work conditions that they put their writing staff through.

Alex Kurtzman has since replaced them as the showrunner of the show and he just signed a new deal with CBS. A $25 million deal which will be part of a five-year plan to develop more Star Trek series for the network. There are currently six projects that are apparently currently in early development, one of them includes a sequel to The Next Generation series with Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Captain Picard!

First, Variety reveals details on the following four series that are in development:

A teen-oriented series set at Starfleet Academy from Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz, the duo behind the recent Dynasty reboot and Marvel’s Runaways adaptation.
A limited series with a currently confidential plot.
A limited series based around the beloved character Khan, from the original Star Trek and the classic film The Wrath of Khan—something that’s been rumored for a while as being spearheaded by Wrath of Khan director Nicholas Meyer.
An animated series with another currently confidential plot.
Those all sound great, but I'm most excited for this possible Next Generation sequel series that was reported by The Hollywood Reporter! The report says:

The new deal comes as rumblings about another Star Trek series, featuring Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Star Trek: The Next Generation's Capt. Jean-Luc Picard, have been heating up. Sources say Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman, who left Discovery after season one, are attached to the Stewart-led reboot. CBS TV Studios declined to confirm the Stewart project as sources say a deal is far from completed and may not happen despite the fact that the actor recently teased his potential return to the franchise.

Yay, maybe? I dunno.

Never did get passed Episode 2 of Discovery. Don't really care about half of this but would still love to see a new Star Trek show that's you know.. like Star Trek. Until that happens I'll just wait for The Orville to start back up.

I made it 6 or so episodes but it was just so.............well bad I couldn't take any more. Boring ridiculous characters I couldn't begin to give a shit about and certainly NOT Trek, not even Kelvin timeline "trek". Probably written by Pakleds. Add the breathtakingly idiotic ship designs and ANYTHING they come up with next has to be an improvement.

I read about the TNG reboot but I'm sure they will find a way to screw it up. They don't even have Stewart signed yet. Even if it happens I'm sure they will put it on their streaming service so I won't watch it.

As mentioned previously the big problem with Star Trek TV shows is the weird split licensing. Until they get that figured out and can have things that look 100% like Star Trek instead of a contract mandated 80%.. it's not going to feel right.

Well that and better writing but that seems to be a problem across the board for SCI-FI these days.

I like Niloc's idea (I think it was him) of having a series that is the generation after TNG.  Let's go forward in the timeline instead of continually going to the past.

A limited Kahn series is most likely going to be the Eugenics Wars books...It would explain the differences between TOS and TNG Klingons at least. BUT casting is critical, no Cumberbatch please.

Yeah, that's definitely what I'd like to see. Tech and TV production values have increased to the point where they could easily make a series that was convincingly further in the future than all the TNG through Voyager shows were.

We've had a ton of both post-apocalyptic stuff, and serialized stuff (and I like both of those when they're done well) - could really use at least one show that has a hopeful, optimistic future, and it wouldn't be a bad thing if most episodes were stand-alone rather than serialized too, or a mix of both.

Shake it up a bit by maybe making relations with the Romulans better in the future - how about a Romulan first officer/science officer instead of a Vulcan? Similar to how Worf was the first Klingon in Starfleet.

edit: TNG series with Patrick Stewart? Why the fuck would Picard still be a Captain at this point? With Kirk having him demoted from Admiral for being a jackass made sense, but Picard?

I don't think Discovery was a terrible show in the end, though it had some pretty damn major flaws.

It wasn't Star Trek though, and it makes zero sense continuity-wise no matter what timeline it's supposed to be in.

Discovery first few I could not get into it. Then once I was hooked and started to like some of the Character development and Klingon Aspect of it which was very involved with turning a Klingon human to infiltrate Starfleet was brilliant and I was awaiting each new episode .
So it was not as bad to all Trekkies . I would enjoy a another season for sure .
Live Longer and Prosper More  :P

Season 2 is now done.
Will it be back?
I do not think so.
Discovery is gone .
The crew Lies to Starfleet in debriefing saying Discovery Blew up when it really went to the future with the A.I Controls Data .
 And Spock suggesting this...…
if you break regulation 157 section 3 which adds orders to those with knowledge of Discovery ,Spore Drive ,space suit to never speak of it and to never interrupt historical events and refrain from any discussions in or around the subject to be treason   .
Then The New Repaired Enterprise with Pike and Spock take off into warp speed on the 5 Year mission .

Basically it was a prequel to T.O.S so it was indeed Star Trek and I liked it .
So even if it only impacted one Fan (me) . It was worth it in the end.
Hope they Do something similar soon .

In the end i liked the first season better with the Alternate Universe aspect with Capt Lorca which was in part because of the spore drive and makes sense why starfleet never pursued it (Spore Drive)again even with Discovery's Great Track record it had up to the point it alledgedly blew up. .

CBS has a lot invested in it's streaming service. Discovery is currently one of their 'Flagship' shows.. so they'll keep pumping money into it no matter what.. at least for now.

Hire the Star Trek Axanar production crew... it's ready made Star Trek and is liked by the fans as Star Trek.  Too bad they're too stupid or arrogant to do that.

In case you missed it somehow...

Obviously the capped Axanar because it is set in exactly the same time period as Discovery and even has some similar themes.

Oh and it doesn't suck.. so they definitely don't want that out there competing.

I thought this was a great example of TNG vs STD. Someone in the comments said it’s like finding a friend you haven’t seen in 20 years only to discover that he was killed and his body worn as a suit by an monstrous alien who wants to eat your brain.

For the record I thought it was a fan film as well, the acting is about that level.. and not even a good fan film.. but I googled it and unfortunately.. yeah it's real

The sad part is I believe they were trying to be funny but it just came off as amateurish and cringy. It shows how piss poor the wiring for these shows are.

I hope Picard is good but it's coming from the same idiots that allowed this drivel through so don't hold your breath.
