Did someone get lucky on this one? Was posted last night at about 2:30 am for $3,000, cash deal. I replied first thing this morning, as I have been looking for one of these for some time (too cheap to pay going price), but did not hear back. The ad is now gone, removed by owner. So, I figured one of three things happened 1. someone got lucky, 2 it was a scam or 3. poster sobered up and decided to keep the game. I guess #4 early April Fool's Day joke is also on the table. Anyone know anything?

i heard a someone from deltona was looking at it, and claims to have gotten it.

[03/29/2010 12:34:17] <murfe88> What MM?
[03/29/2010 13:59:54] <herman> any one in sl fl
[03/29/2010 14:00:10] <herman> i got the 3k MM
???
-
Well, congrats to him if it did work out for him.
If he has it in his possession, I wonder if he wants to sell it for a quick profit? I know that I would have paid more than that (and still would) for a decent MM.
-
Herman did get it, and is planning on selling it as-is.
-
not real til we see pics with dogs

...or an old mustang. :)

Herman driving to MIAMI!!! Yeah right !!! I can almost guarantee he didn't get this one. ;D
If so, congrats Herm, it would probably be worth it in this case.
-
Herman has gotten some really good deals before, he scored that South Park for almost nothing.
If he did get it.. just makes you wonder about who would sell a MM so cheap. Even in this economy that game is worth more than $3k even dirty and dead.
But then agian I guess the universe has to balance out all those people selling moldy broken EMs for $3500.
-
I saw that ad as well. It must have sold quickly (no surprise if real) as I replied before 6 A.M. this morning and never got a reply. Oh well, yet if it was legit and an FAC member got it then many congrats! :)
-
Bad news, seems it was a sick joke by someone. 450 miles for nothing, that just sucks.

Sick bast$%@! :)
Seriously, though, if someone did drive that far for nothing then I feel for you as that would stink!
-
okay EVERYONE go to Herman's house while he's not home! We can rescue all the pinball machines!

Too late, we already did.. here's proof!

Karma sucks.
One thing about going two towns over or down the road, but this just isn't right.
At least it wasn't a setup to get robbed, but it just wasn't right.

Something in that listing struck me as funny and I didn't even reply. Email me your phone number and I will call you with directions? Give me a break.
-
There are a few keys here
1. "If it looks too good to be true..."
2. Who's going to post a legitimate for-sale ad between midnight and 5am except for overseas scammers?
3. A good percentage of scam MM's are posted to the Miami craigslist.
However one can only do so much leg work before hopping in the car and crossing your fingers. And frankly, what was this all about, because if I were a scammer I'd hand out 10 addresses to 10 people and have my gang take all their cash, otherwise it's a prank worthy of a 2nd grader.
-
I'm just getting up to speed on all this, as have been out all day. Well, I of course saw it shortly after being listed early last night, as I'm up through the night. However... the pessimist in me just says "Bullshit" right away these days, and didn't even bother to play the game. I told Herman when he IMed me in the morning it was most likely a scam or surely gone by that time, which was around 7am. So...if Santeh emailed at 6am with no response, that's even more curious. I don't understand any of this crap, what's the big joke wasting someone's time, played by people with mentality of 5 year olds, since they have no life and nothing better to do. I guess same mentality of the idiots that send viruses over the internet to screw up people's computers...just to waste people's time and aggravate fellow man. Some people deserve to be in prison, karma's gonna get em, don't worry.
Assuming Herman got an email response and/or phone number, this stuff (phone number and IP address) can be traced easily by the Police Economic (internet) crimes division.
-
I saw the ad for MM early in the morning as well. Was hoping that if it were real at least one of the local collectors would get it. I had already made a run on Sunday to get a Spidey, so out of cash and room or I would have sent an e-mail as well.

All i gotta say is atleast motel 6 is cheap

Well here's the story, got Im from Jeff at 8 am told me about it , went and emailed and then went out did my errrands, got back home and had an email form guy, Emailed back and fort about how he had another person or two he has called but nothing yet, so he gave me a # well called that at 2p and spoke to the guy about the pin seemed knowledgeable about MM and gave me an address, looked up the address sand its is a nice house right where he said it was ( gave directions) called Rich asked if he knew anyone closer but to no luck but he did verify that pics were legit and not copied form anywhere ( no treasure cove or ipdb pics) spoke to the guy like 4 times told him i would call when i left to make sure i was on the way and when i was half way there called to find out about walmart or something to get tie downs even spoke to him when i got off the highway and 4 miles from address , well called when i was at his place and stupid phone WAs not working ( like it was shut off) knocked on door nothing rang door bell nothing etc got a text asking where i was and then silence after i replied , did drive around to see if maybe i was mistaken but no garages were open like he stated there would be after about an hr of this crap i left, had a horrible headache form tension so stoped at exit 129 on 95 as well i was tired and had the h/a needless to say i just got back in

Goodness, Herman, I am sorry you went through all that. It sounds, though, like you did what was reasonable before traveling for the MM. At some point there has to be trust as buying the machines can often be long distance. ALways a risk, though, non-local games but sometimes the risk might be justified. No worries, then, Herman.
At the very least you made it to Pompano and back safely yet if you are like me at all the sting of someone doing this would linger for a bit. Get some rest, have a nice meal, and enjoy the great games you have. Plus there will be other legitimate deals in the future.
Always...
-
If this turns out to have been a joke that someone played on you, I just can't see the humor. Very sorry for how this went for you Herman.
Like most others, I was suspicious when I saw the ad and did not believe it was real. However, in the back of my mind, there was still the thought that there are some folks desperate for cash and that there was nothing to lose by sending an email. It was worth taking a shot to see if it was legitimate. But, my suspicion was more of a robbery set-up (cash only deal) than a practical joke. So, in the unlikely event that I got a reply to my message, my plan was to take a friend who would be prepared and capable of dealing with that type of situation. Plus, it would be a little less than an hour for me, so the time waste would not be onerous.
When Curly let me know Herman was on it, he gave me the number and I called Herman and reached him on the road about 5:00 pm. We talked for a bit about my potentially buying the game if he got it. I warned him to be careful and wished him luck. He called me around 7:30 pm to tell me what happened. He suspected someone had played a trick on him, which is something that just seems foreign to me. I can see playing a prank and getting a guy excited, but convincing him to drive 100s of miles is just outside the boundaries of what I would consider acceptable or even remotely funny.
Sorry for your bad day, Herman.
Ron
-
yup i agree, even i think this was messed up, sorry for your wasted day.
-
Yeah this certainly goes beyond the realm of a joke.
I would certainly hope no member of this forum is involved in this. If so you won't be a member long after we find out about it.
-
WOW, that is uncalled for if true. Pompano is a few hundred miles round trip!

So you have the phone number of the guy pulling the "joke"? Is it possible to get a name from this? From reading this post it look like you were the specific target. Total dick move from the prankster.

herman, please take the phone number off your post. will update in a few hours.

If that is the case, it is just plain mean to do something like that.
Not that it is any consolation but things like that have happened to all of us one way or the other. People promise one thing, get our hopes up and then never deliver.
I have had dealings with "friends" that have basically gone awry and have dissolved the friendship over trivial stuff based on repeated broken promises. Never will understand why someone will make a promise to a friend and then break it over and over, but a lesson lived is a lesson learned.
I am sorry to hear Herman went through this. At least he is safe and there is no loss other than his time and finances for the trip. It is clear he has some support on this group. That must be worth something.
-
I did reverse phone number look up and it is a land line in Marathon, Keys.
-
It's actually a "virtual" phone, as I explained to Herman last night and he asked me to call it from my phone to see if I could get thru where he couldn't.
Google has a service called "Google Voice", which is essentially a virtual phone tied to vmail.
It will fwd to whatever number you specify. As well, you can shut it off (I think) or put it on ignore.
It's a neat service, I've used it for awhile, especially having people I don't know call me (ie replying to pin ads, etc) or to people that I don't want to give my cell number to.
http://www.google.com/googlevoice/about.html (http://www.google.com/googlevoice/about.html)
Also, technically if someone was in Pompano it should have been a 954 number, but with portability a 305 or 786 is believable...
Still, pretty shitty deal.
-
Of all the people it had to happen to, it happened to Herman. No money to buy a pin, no time get the pin, no way to move the pin Herman. Then a smokin' deal on a MM comes up and Herman has the money, the time and the means to move it. As much as it sucks that it was a bullshit deal and you guys may think I'm an ass for saying this, I'm remotely amused by it because of the pattern mentioned above.
I'm sorry for saying that, Herman, and sorry it didn't work out you. I'm glad it wasn't a robbery attempt and that you're safely home! That's all that really matters. :)
-
Not that it is any consolation but things like that have happened to all of us one way or the other. People promise one thing, get our hopes up and then never deliver.
This has more-or-less happened to me twice, with two different people, in the last week over my dart system! One most notable that come to look at them, asked to buy them, and then never responded again when it came to paying and picking the darts up. At least they could have some common courtesy to tell me they are not interested so that I can feel okay about trying to sell the system to someone else. Yet proper behavior seems like an antiquated idea in today's world... Conversely I hope the person is okay and that it was only a change of mind for their not wanting the system.
-
Too bad Herman didnt reach out to someone in the South florida area, could have saved him alot of agrivation!
Ya know, kinda like a buyers rep. Of course that would involve a little trust for both parties.
Any whoo "ITS A MAD MAD WORLD" Ilove that movie ;D

I'm telling you all.. I've said it once and I'll say it again.. CL is evil!

Hear, hear! Yet I must admit that at least it is a free and it is sometimes a necessary evil! ;D

Dave makes a valid point with respect to Herman. I have to admit that when I first heard that Herman was the one who looked to be getting the alleged deal, I had the thought "Why him?" It seemed like a potentially tremendous stroke of luck and if I were picking among folks on this board who I hoped would have that kind of luck (other than me) , Herman would have been pretty far down that list (maybe last). I was also amazed that he actually had the cash on hand and the free time to make a trip, because, based on his posts, he always seems to be broke or working or too busy to do things.
I responded to the ad, as did Santeh and probably others. We never heard anything. So, the chance that this was random seems pretty slim to me. In retrospect, it seems likely that someone who knew Herman and his current situation did this intentionally. Wow, that is a pretty rough way of sending a message, getting revenge or playing a joke.
I do not know why Herman did not reach out to the South Florida guys. I am confident that one of us would have had the time to make the trip down to check it out for him. I guess Herman did not trust folks to not snake the deal from him.

What do you get if you flip the Ms in MM upside down? A big W!

How sad this world has become. This person could have had a half dozen people wandering around looking for the address. The fact that they didn't, makes me feel they targeted Herman specifically and also knowing he would get the information in a round about fashion through this board makes me feel we may all have met or dealt with this person at one time or another who set up this garbage. Don't forget, through this board, we all know who is looking for what specific games. I hope this is the last time something like this happens. If you do not like a person, just ignore them, this was a bit much, to screw someone you despise. I hope I am wrong, and it wasn't someone from this board.

Jeff:
I think you need to change your signature. Enjoy the game.

I just looked at my post and realized i the context, it could have been taken the wrong way. I sold Jeff a game on Sunday, utterly unconnected to this other mess, and wanted to tease him for not adding it to his signature.
-
Ron,
I understood and it is done.
Thanks for the reminder

Well as for reaching out to s FL guys i just didn't have phone #'s i asked about Klassic but did not get his # well till lat night when he called, as for Ron or drunktek did not have those either believe me i did not want to drive but i did , i too think it some one that knew that i had $ form selling various games , taxes worked etc as of late and was saving it for the car, but honestly who here would not go get a 3k MM if it seemed real. i mean i did email , and talk voice to the guy and the address is a decent home

Herman

For future reference, the first item on the first page of this Forum is a link to a map that you can access to see where many of the members live. There is also a messaging system to contact people through the board if you do not have their email. I will always try to help a fellow board member, as will others.
Have a better day.

george (home owner) doesn't know what a medieval madness is, had never owned a pinball, and is in his late 50s.
picture of house attached: it's in a higher rent neighborhood for pompano beach.

It makes you wonder if would someone do that for a robbery. Make you come to a random home knowing you had cash and put a gun to your head.

see that exatly what i saw yesterday,

I don't see that Herman has ticked anyone off enough to put him through this. It's either the typical CL seller who promises it to one guy and gives it to another then tries to ditch the swindled buyer... or with real pics, phone calls, real address and the owner of the house not knowing anything, it is shady in a very sinister kind of way that shouldn't be tolerated.
-
I thought you said it was an upscale house? That is far from upscale. I would NOT have even got out of the car for a 3k machine at that house. It has "robbery" written all over it!
-
Herman, First off sorry that you were caught up in this and glad that you are ok.
From reading this thread, it seems to me that Herman was singled out. I, like many of you tried to contact the seller with no reply. It seems strange that Herman, not being the first to reply, was still picked. Coincidence?

Kudos on the effort Herman! It is curious that you were picked, even tho you weren't the first to respond...
Arcade collecting was a lot more fun before CL !
