It's that time of year again.. time for a new take on The Fantastic Four
This version is a homage to the early 1960's / Silver Age version of the team and I think long time comic book fans will be delighted. It's very much Jack Kirby inspired retro-futurism which stands in stark contrast to whatever the hell the body horror version was trying to do. This leans heavily on the SCI-FI adventure aspect and generally works.. it's a fun ride.
The cast is all great, Galactus isn't a giant cloud and even the alternate female version of the Silver Surfer makes sense in context. Some of the sequences are extremely well done especially the space and Galactus stuff. It's once again not a movie that redefines cinema or anything so if you have superhero fatigue and thought Superman sucked I'm not sure this one will wow you either.
If I have a complaint it's that just like Superman this eschews an origin and hits the ground running and never really lets up. I get it, nobody wants a 3rd version of the FF origin but that at least lets you get to know the characters a bit before it shifts into superhero mania mode. This fast pacing I think is felt a bit more here because there are 4 characters and it takes place in a weird alternate history so not much of it is relatable. It's not a fatal flaw but I don't think this has the character moments you need to get into a truly great superhero movie even though overall it's still solid.
While this definitely sets up 'Doomsday' (or whatever) it doesn't get too bogged down into it to derail the story here. However I still worry about that movie as I think Avengers movies only work if the groundwork has been laid and the franchise is in a good place which I don't think it is currently. I mean, who are going to be the main players? I guess the old characters and maybe Fantastic Four unless they are digging up all the dead-end Marvel series like Ant-Man, Eternals or Shang-Chi.. or worse yet DOA stuff like Iron Heart. I dunno I guess we'll see but I think they need to establish a solid base again before they try another Avengers.. maybe get X-Men online.. make it Epic not just a 'well its been X years and we need another big payday'
Anyway thumbs up here.. but i'm sure pinfever will hate it lol.

Next to try and want to see happy Gillmore 2 will take some doing after hearing the movie is just member berries and Cameo after cameo and old shctic and looking at a bearded idiot ! He had some good moments but dislike him i n general. He makes it appear anyone could be an actor / comedian. I've met Jack Number six at events of past and he can be an actor compared to Mr Sandler . You just haven't seen Jack in anything YET :roll: 😜

I will see Fantastic 4, heard good things in general. Thanks for the review minus spoilers K7! I thought Superman had some good intersting parts, sadly Sup and Luthor were not them! I got used to the nuerotic Krypto, and really enjoyed the other characters. Worth a TV rewatch. Wanting to see Nathan Fillion as a Green Lantern in his own movie.
