Do not adjust your computer screens and this is not a typo, after over 5 years...it's baaack. An IFPA (pending IFPA approval) Pinball Tournament at Florida’s largest public venue for Pinball....the Silverball Museum in Delray Beach!

With competitive pinball continuing to grow, Silverball Delray is now welcoming back all ages and all skill levels to participate in what may become the first of many future tournaments! We are doing a fixed number of rounds (10 to 13 rounds depending on turnout Plus finals) so there will be plenty of playing in this event for all players no matter how you place in matches throughout the tournament.

WHEN & HOW MUCH:
Tournament Date:  May 06, 2023
Registration & Practice Time:  10:30 am to 12 pm
Tournament Start Time:  12pm

Entry Fee: $30 ($15 for entry + $15 Tournament Fee)
$15 goes towards a full day, unlimited play admission to the Silverball (normally $20 but discounted for Tournament players).
$14  goes towards the prize pool and $1 covers the IFPA tournament submission fee.

FORMAT:
Qualifying + Finals

Qualifying:
10 to 13 rounds of Match Play depending on turnout. Players will be in groups of 4 or 3.

Scoring:
- Groups of 4:  7-5-3-1
- Groups of 3:  7-4-1
- Overall points will determine seeding for Finals.

Number of players who make finals will depend on total participants:
  • Up to 16 players:  The top 4 will move on to the finals.
  • 17-31 players: Top 8 make the finals.
  • 32+ players: Top 16 make the finals.

Finals:
Top qualifiers will play 3 rounds of Match Play until down to the Final 4 Players who will play 3 rounds of Match Play with place determined by aggregate score for those final 3 rounds.
Scoring: 7-5-3-1
Cash will be paid out at the end of the tournament based on total player count:  Top 25% (or top 4 whichever is greater) of finishers shall receive cash

YOUR TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS:
Vince G (Me) & Sandra D

SPECIAL SHOUT OUT:
Marcel G - The Man, The Myth, The Legend and...the TD who ran the previous tournaments at Silverball.

GAME ASSIGNMENTS PER ROUND:
In order to minimize wait times each round, we will be grouping each game type of arenas together per round. In other words, one round will be all EM’s. Another will be all Solid State machines, etc. This allows each round to finish about the same time (vs a quick EM game waiting for a long playing modern group to complete) and therefore each round should complete more efficiently which allows us to play more rounds overall.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:
This is a public venue and it will be open to customers who are not playing in the tournament. Therefore, groups may have to wait for their assigned machine to free up if someone is playing it. Where practical, we may display signage indicating machines are tournament machines in the event someone is repeatedly playing a tournament machine. Management  or a TD will gently encourage anyone playing too long on a machine to try another game if tourney players are waiting for them to complete their current game. Similarly, please be aware you may have non-tournament and tournament participants playing next to you from time to time.

The machines will be play-tested prior to the event and their repair tech team will be focused on getting everything in tip top shape leading up to the tournament as well plus a tech is planning to be on-site during the tournament. That all said, these machines are played daily and just like any on-location machine, there likely will be some that don’t play 100% perfectly. I personally played a lot of games prior to this announcement and I was very happy with how they played. Many games including EM’s I played had snappy flippers and were playing nicely. As is typical, we will be removing any machine we identify having issues from the Arenas list prior to the start of the tournament and during it if it is a major malfunction. The Tournament Director will make rulings in accordance with IFPA rules regarding malfunctions.

Games will NOT be modified physically (like removing rubbers, etc. to make them harder) although games that have a Competition Mode setting may be enabled. Basically, for most games we will “play it as it lies” as they say.

The Silverball Museum is a family-friendly facility. Children are encouraged to play in the tournament when accompanied by an adult. Since non tourney players will be around as well, please be mindful of your conduct while playing especially if you get 2 house balls in a row ;-) remember you still have ball 3!

If any of these things are problematic for someone, then this may not be the tournament for them. As you can see based on the length of this announcement, we endeavor to be as up front as possible about expectations and how the event will be conducted.

As of this announcement, there have been 2 tournaments played this year at the Silverball in New Jersey (its sister facility). The player and venue management feedback was great, so we do not anticipate any issues or drama just a ton of fun and friendly competition.  :-)

Assuming this event goes well for the Venue and players, we anticipate holding more events this year including a possible regular league and specialty tournaments. For example, with the large number of Electro Mechanical machines on-site, we really would like to run an EM-only event in the future! Let’s see how this one goes first though....

Various aspects of this event may be subject to change but things have been thoroughly thought through as you can see based on how detailed this announcement is so we hope changes are minimal to what’s been communicated herein.

FOOD & DRINK OPTIONS:
The Silverball has food and drink options including a bar.

ADDRESS & PARKING:
19 NE 3rd Ave, Delray Beach, FL 33483

While parking is free and the lot is big at the Silverball, it fills up quickly. Once it does, there is paid street parking, garages and lots in the surrounding area. Since Silverball is opening early to accommodate this tournament, we anticipate ample spots to be available especially the earlier you arrive. The venue officially opens at 12 noon which is our tournament start time even though tournament players may enter starting at 10:30 am.
