Superman didn't suck

James Gunn kicks off the current iteration of the DC universe with Superman.. and it's up to Gunn standards.

Finally they've shaken off the dour Snyder bullshit and this is back to being a fun hopeful flick. It hits the ground running.. thankfully no origin.. and perhaps one of the few complaints here is it never really stops. This movie is paced like a race car. But there's still enough time for that James Gunn character building. There's investment here.. Superman is a good character and you like him.

One thing this movie does well is make Lex Luthor a dick. He's not goofy evil like Hackman or whatever the hell Jessie Eisenberg was trying to do.. this is a smart calculating evil Lex and it works.

You can tell Gunn is trying to build up the DC universe as we have a few other "metahumans" already in play. Gunn manages to do this organically though it doesn't feel rushed or pushed like in the previous iteration. Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner is particularly fun.

Overall it was good. The story was good enough to get you invested.. everyone was likable.. they kept politics out of it.. no real major issues. I'm interested to see what they do next.

Now it's on Marvel to make Fantastic Four good.

"fine" and "meh" are todays glowing reviews.  like people are shocked they aren't total piles of shit.

I may see it.. I think its good they went more campy like the original one from the 70s.

Super hero movies that take themselves seriously are ridiculous to begin with...

I saw Brightburn. I thought it was ok.

'And?!' I saw the new Superman. And I thought it was the right product at the right time to give IP stockholders a big sigh of relief, after previous studio heads couldn't figure out what to do with a bunch of valuable characters. This movie did blatantly borrow 4 or 5 plot points of the other Supes films from 1 through Returns, but like Jack and most reviews everywhere else have said, it's the casting that really made this work.

And the movie hasn't bombed, it did $225mil worldwide over the weekend, which covers the production budget. It's from today on that sees if it has legs.

Superman is better than Meh.. it's not going to redefine Cinema for you or anything but in terms of Superman movies it's up there just under the original 2 which may never be surpassed.

But it's still one of those situations where if you don't really care about Superman then it's probably not going to change that either.. but it's miles better than violence punch man that the last few movies were pushing.. now those were garbage.

Brightburn was an interesting concept and was executed well enough for a low-budget SCI-FI horror.. but hard to really say more than that.

The casting on Superman was well done and James Gunn known what needs to be done and was able to execute it. People don't want a dour Superman.. he's the goofy hopeful character.. he's not Batman.  It appears it's working because Superman is doing extremely well in this post-covid everything is on streaming in 3 weeks world.

I did not leave any comments in this article about how much I disliked it but it resonated the same to most commentators about the turd movie teens seemed to over love ,,  lol.
However I know a few teens who seen it and they said it sucked ….   As far as money made people also commented on.     
Seems They have hopes up….  Not me ….  Made money because people hoped it may be good and a good franchise name and no competition at all. Save your money . The effects won’t look any worse on any size screen .   DL it free . No loss ,

I saw this yesterday.. it was OK and entertaining enough for what it is.

Story is a mess and I didnt care one iota about the Clark and Lois thing... I mean I know they have to cram it in there but it felt just like that.

Guy in front of me ate one of those giant buckets of popcorn for the whole first hour and then passed out for the rest.

Not sure if he was in a diabetic coma or the movie knocked him out but that about sums it up I think.
