Gas Pump Garage Sale!
« on: August 24, 2017, 09:23:02 AM »
Hi all -

For those of you that know me, and have seen my garage, you know that my other hobby is collecting and restoring antique gas pumps   :P  Needless to say, my garage is FULL, and I really have to thin out my collection.  I've been much more interested in the EM pinball machines over the last year (have kawikid and Gatlin63 to thank for that! lol).  I've picked out several restored and project gas pumps to sell off at close to what I have into them.  Always interested in trades for project pinball machines also!

John Deere theme gas pump (green and yellow) w/hose and nozzle:  $575
Mobilfuel Diesel theme gas pump (red) w/hose and nozzle: $575
1950' A.O. Smith L-3 pump project (have all parts / disassembled):  $400
Gasboy 290 gas pump (thin red pump) / I will include nozzle: $475
Fill-Rite 704 pump project (white/surface rust) w/nozzle: $275

Thanks for looking!

Eric

Looks like real nice work. I didn't know people restored the newer style pumps, never really seen them used in decor type settings. I think the real money in restorations would be in the old visible glass tank type models. Probably the same or similar amount of work but the payout could be bigger. GLWTS.

Here is a little something I pulled off of Google University.

The gas that cost a total of $4.80 in 1969 would cost $50 today to fill a 20 gallon tank.
The average price for a gallon of gas in 1950 was 18 cents with the price at the end of the decade being 25 cents so it was a bargain to buy gas for 24 cents ten years after 1959.

Nice Job Eric.......

GLWTS

Thanks guys for the comments.

Pinpup - You are right, there is bigger money in the older visible gas pumps.  They are much more expensive (in the thousands), heavy and tall.  I like doing these smaller pumps for an display a man cave, or garage, etc.  They are lighter too!

Rudy - Thanks for the info on the price of gas.  If you buy one of these, you can pump all of the gas that you can get out of it for free!    ;D 8)

I do have some older larger pumps I am working on that I want to keep.  Here are some pics.  You will notice in one pic my green porcelain tile garage floor .... I want to see it again!!!  LOL  I would love to have the space for more pinball machines lol.

Also - the last pictures (red pump) are of another pump project I have for sale.  It needs the base welded, I was going to restore it in a Red Hat Gasoline theme, I have the mini globe and decal already also, which I can include.  Price for that one: $350.  I also have a Polly mini-globe that I can substitute.  These make great little projects.  As always, I will include a nozzle for this one too.

Here are the pics:

Dynamite work.  Just wondering what the Gasboy would look like if you blacked out its lettering?  Did it have any artwork or advertising?

Thanks.  All of the gas globes are repro.  The Red Hat and Polly globes are milk glass "mini globes" that I collect also.  The mini globes are great for the smaller pumps.

Thanks FUNWIZ - I do have several advertizing decals and signs I could put on the small red Gasboy, but I was just going to clean it up, add a nozzle, and keep it original.  Still deciding .....LOL

Can I get some side views?  I'm thinking this might go well with a little modification.

PM's answered.  As requested, here are some more pictures of the Gasboy 290 pump.  This pump is all original, complete, original paint, and only has a total of 27 gallons pumped through it.  It has the original porcelain face plate.

Here are the pics, enjoy!
