Hey Guys,

Yup, I listed the Asteroids I got from Mick on CL. And before anyone decides to poke fun at the outrageous prices, I should point out that I am fully aware that they are outrageous.  :D

I love this group. The group we have here is all people that I would forever try to make fair deals with, but anyone that has been around knows the difference between "the group" and "just fishin". I think most collectors dream of buying a game, putting a little work into it and eventually flipping it to someone who is willing to pay ungodly amounts of money because that's what it's worth to them.

I bought this and the Missile Command from Mick to flip them during the holidays, nothing more. My deals with the group remain unchanged, I'm still reasonable to the guys here generally, but the way I see it...everyone had a clear shot at both tables from Mick before I snagged them, as I recall he dropped his prices several times to the group. I doubt anyone would care if I flipped them for obscene amounts of cash now, anyway, but I wanted to just head off as much extra heckling as possible, and potentially avoid hurting anyones feelings. And look on the bright side, maybe I'll be successful, and some of these classic vids might FINALLY pull out of the basement.

By now I'm pretty sure everyone knows why I've gone partially Mercenary, anyways.  ;)

Best of luck on the sale Doc. Hey, everyone has to eventually make some money back to perpetuate the hobby otherwise it's just a giant money pit.

Lol, good luck with the sale. Ive bought several games from the other members either to resale or already had a buyer waiting on it, and told the seller up front that I was flipping them.

Congratulations Dan.

Hobbies are great, but pale in comparison to the joy that children will bring you daily. Wishing you all the best ...

did you at least windex it ;) ?

they may move on eBay, just due to the holidays. if you find a guinea pig, i have an original Japanese Home Use Only Space Invaders II in the cocktail format. 8) $2000.00 with gold (painted) legs....legs get painted after i get painted with cash.

cocktail games are cool, but just don't sell well outside of your pac and the mrs, and a galaga or 2.

don't laff. i'm about to post a $27,000 gottlieb bell ringer for an eBay holiday spoof.

I think you have a bit of a contradiction going on:

"The top glass is original, so naturally it has some scratches and very minor flaking in one corner, but I prefer original condition myself."

Followed by:

"I've done some minor things, like stripping and applying new powdercoat (NOT paint...I wanted it to be durable) to the legs and clips, so it looks factory new in those areas."

So you prefer chipped scratched glass but factory new legs? ;D BTW, I'm just busting your chops on your sales pitch, nice looking game and I hope you get enough money to cover diapers for at least a few months ;)

I am a walking contradiction, sir. Although I will say that people concerned with "original condition" rarely extend their concerns to include rusty legs and clips. ;D "Original Condition" also sounds better than "shoved in the corner of an ops warehouse and forgotton until someone came along and nabbed it" ;)

Everyone says how cocktails are dead: I do intend to prove them wrong. Cocktails aren't dead, merely underapreciated. The collectors want the uprights, true, but a large number of the non-collectors want something in their house other than a hulking arcade beast. Cocktails also provide an opportunity to slip a game in on the missus, since she can always write it off as an art deco thing...it's still a table, after all. =)
