Woohoo back to it's rightful owner my Honda CR125 dirtbike!!
« on: November 26, 2008, 08:02:18 AM »
About 4 or 5 years ago I sold my CR125R bike that I had for quite a while to my brother in law.

The tide has turned and the bike is heading back to me and I can't wait. This bike means alot to me, I rode many, many times with my brother and father (who passed last year) lots of memories and crazy shit I did on that bike!!

I hope it still has the sticker on the back fender that says "The older I get the fast I used to be"  :)  Attached are a few pics of it, these are not photoshopped, etc. (Hey if I were going to shop one I would have to make it alot cooler then these  :D )

PS I used to get alot of comments on my number plates :)

Looks FUN tho I'd be scared of hurting myself. I like 4-wheelers :)

At one of our client sites this 60 year old admin rolled a 4-wheeler while on vacation. She's still learning how to walk again.

Funky - I have been riding cycles since I was seven years old and sure I have wiped out many times but actually never got hurt, like broken bones, etc.  I have a quad too but I tell ya I flipped that one time and that hurt!!! I didn't get hurt but 400+ lbs coming down on me pulled some muscles.. luckily  my brother was there to get me out from under it as I was pinned.  I wasn't even being a nut on it, I was just crusing and hit a 3 ft wash-out dip and boom!

Yosho - Not really sure this one is an old one 1987 but it's been in the family for over 10 years and basically is totally new engine wise... I believe new ones are like $2500 just guessing, it's outrageous though.  If I had a new one I would be afraid of riding it and getting a scratch on it!!

To add to my post I am not saying I am bullet proof or some cocky I can't get hurt ridder... I was probably lucky in a lot of close calls, etc. but I have always had a lot of respect, etc. for cycles/quads.

I started out on a Honda trail 70cc bike you know the ones with the fold down handlebars people used to put them on the front of there rv's, then 80cc (XR, XL), then 175cc trail (RS, PE), and then 125cc racing type bikes (RM, CR).

The newer 250cc's are the way to go. They are lighter and faster with better brakes and suspension. The 125's run out of power real quick and then you will be looking to upgrade. You can get a nice used 250 at a reasonable price.

My Dads was a 250cc CR that thing was scary fast! can't imagine say a 500CR.  ;D I am picking my old 125 CR up for $500 and he just put over $600 in the rebuild and the bikes got sentimental value to me :)  I actually won't be riding it a whole lot, probably just making it look new and keeping it, since my back is bad and knees and on an occasional ride my 150lb self will be happy (I weight the same now as back when I had it).

Yeah, I weigh about 160 lbs and rode my friends CR500 once. I was either coasting or wheeling, there was no in between.

Yeah quads give you a little sense of false security. When something bad happens, it can be a LOT worse than on a bike.

Indeed, when I bought my quad I was finally settling down from my go fast days of 2 strokes, etc. I got not quite a utility type, but nothing like a racing one... I ended up with a Polaris Trail boss 325cc 4 stroke 2wd, etc. poor thing has been sitting for a year, time to pull the carb and clean it, it will be a pile of gum varnish even with the gas stabilizer because the fuel now a days is crap.

I like to ride at Croom during the week so all the crazy's aren't there... but the stickers now are $50 a year, when I first started going there many years ago it was $15!!  ::)

Kinda when working with electricity or handling guns, I was also on guard on a 4-wheeler. Being a scary-pussy will keep me alive for a while longer I thinks :P

Those pictures were taken by a family friend who has been a St. Times sports photographer for over 20+ years.  He took a ton of pictures and then burned them to a CD-R for me.  Those pictures are from Croom at the first parking area... all post a few more.

I hope I can find another walmart jersey like I had in the pics, it beats buying them for $30+ from the moto places!

Also I have the bike 90% up and going, I had to pull the carb and clean the varnish and gum out from it sitting, and then I could only get it to push start, so with some testing I found the stator being the culprit. Wed the new one should be here so I will get it in and hopefully it will be singing before Christmas! In the mean time I am packing the silencer, flushing the radiator and changing the crankcase oil.  :)
