Dead AC!
« on: December 08, 2008, 07:37:22 PM »
The blower of my AC/heat stopped blowing. I swapped the relay under the hood with a neighbor's relay, same problem. I hit clubrsx.com and read about a possible dead transistor. I headed over to sly ry's house to use his multimeter to test the part. Yup, no continuity between certain thingies. It's a common enough problem. I lost one of the screws that holds the heatsinky thingy in place. Oops!

It's $39.22 for the part online and pretty easy to replace (its just behind the glove box by the ac air filters). I guess I'll spring for new in-cabin air filters too ($17.10, woop!). If I was an old lady who wasn't slightly web/car savvy I'd have to pay $115ish. Hurray for internet!

you gotta love the internet, we had a problem with the heating on our car, Ford quote some four figure price including install for a complete new unit and all that, google the same thing, and low and behold, do a few simple tests, remove radio unit, find the broken part, under $40 installed and fixed, even if you took to a dealer you going to have a good few hundred before even having it fixed.  So thumbs up for the world wide web thingy. ;D

Yeah! My first successful foray into that was fixing a Check Engine light by reading the code (bought the $17 code-reader at Amazon!) and finding out I needed to replace one of those oxygen sensor thingies. A little soldering and screwing-out and in later, and the light is out. I dunno how much it would have cost at the repair shop, but I was proud!

Yeah the CEL we had that as well, and again after googling it, and finding out Autozone read it for free, compared to $$$ from main dealer, got the code from AZ googled the code, and found out the common problem and solved it, you might think main dealers realise this now and adjust prices accordingly, but I guess there are enough people without net savvy to still pay their high prices
