Paragon!
« on: December 08, 2012, 04:38:30 PM »
Just located a beauty I'm going to ship in from NY. It's apparently been in a dark, climate controlled warehouse since the 80's. My contact in NY powered it up after 30 years and it "just worked":-)

Here are some pics: https://picasaweb.google.com/108402331834952745760/December82012

The PF has practically no wear and no mylar, so it must have been very lightly played. The cabinet could use a few touchup's, however the colors are very vibrant. The inside of the cabinet is remarkably clean. The underside of the PF almost looks like a restoration!

The same warehouse had a NOS Paragon PF that I'm also picking up. Even though I don't really need it, it's hard for me to pass up. CPR might eventually do a repro, however it could be many years until they get to it (and even then there is no guarantee it will be as good as NOS).

Excited!

it's in really nice original condition but I see PLANKING in the close-up on the PF. Good candidate for a clear!

I have played my friend Brady's and it has a playfield like a MIRROR! Cool game

SUPER NICE -congrats, you seem to find some of the nicest games. I love this machine for the artwork, nostalgia, wide body cabinet, as well as the gameplay! I have been looking for one for my collection for a while but nothing decent has turned up.  Enjoy!

PS ( can I come over and play)! Ha, Ha, Ha!!!!

Agreed...I'll probably send Chris Hutchins or Ron Kruzman the NOS PF for touchups and clear.  It's almost impossible to avoid some planking on PF's from that era. I've never done a swap, but this pin looks simple enough that I might give it a try. The original PF is so nice that I could then have that restored/cleared as well and hang it on my wall as art.

Brady did a very sweet job restoring his Paragon...the clear looks gorgeous. I approached him about selling it, but he wasn't that motivated.

In any event, I don't think I've ever seen a nicer original condition machine, so I am thrilled.

Since you are in the restoration biz, do you have any recommendations for the best person to touchup the cabinet? Are you ever in South Florida?

PF swaps take way LONGER than what you think so be prepared... trust me from doing my Playboy. But once you have one under your belt, you will figure out a lot of little things to make the second one go faster. I think the older PF swaps take just as long or longer than WPC. The ground braid for the GI is what's a bitch!!!!

Good Luck!

Agreed, I actually find the older games more difficult than the newer ones to swap.  Ground braid adds a level of difficulty and sometimes the transition of parts to another PF are not as precise on the older games.  Not sure if this was because they were assembled differently or punched differently, but in my experience it is trickier to do older games.
