« on: January 10, 2013, 09:52:34 AM »
Just finished up a NO FEAR for a client. Came out really nice as usual with BOLD colors. Back in Black... and Red!

Decals were supplied by client. I could flame the inside, paint naked ladies, chrome every single bolt, etc.... whatever anybody wants! It all depends on what the client wants to shell out MONEY wise. The bottom line is, the more hours I spend, the more it costs and some just aren't willing to drop the BIG BUCKS!

it's all personal preference, and dollars. i fully get that.

but i still remember your harlem heat. you, sir, are sick with the artistic ideas. i'm not 1/100th the talent you are with a paint brush (and i don't have the patience), but because of your bally work, i've taken a lot of extra effort in my current bally builds right now. :)

Nice work as usual.  How were the new decals?  I’ve heard they (meaning the next gen ones) are thinner and tougher to apply than Darien’s and Allen’s decals. They look great.

They seemed about the same thickness as the others. They do not tend to stretch as much and have a weird lemony smell to them... maybe the new ink or material. Went on well and looked like a factory finish! I will say this though, decal DO NOT HIDE mistakes. The cabinets need to be like GLASS before you do decals.

If you have never worked with anything like this before, I do not recommend it to the un-talented. You can fuck up a $300 set of decals in seconds and you will be crying! I've been working with vinyl, etc. for the past 30 years and their really is an art to it.... not just slapping then on and saying "Look what I did!" It's looking at them up close and in detail to see how quality of a job it is.

Jeff your work is simply the best.

Plastic tack glides for the finishing touch?

YES... plastic tack glides are always replaced with either brown or white. I like White on Black!

I am said client.  The decals (from Bay Area) came out awesome.  As of today, the game is 99% reconstructed, it will be completed tomorrow.  New cabinet decals, legs, all new ramps, all new surface hardware, everything else tumbled, LEDs, yada yada, cleaned up some board hacks (like wires soldered directly to driver board header pins...)  It looks and plays like new.  Still have the import coin door, but I like it.

Thanks Jeff!  Great work as usual!

Also, one thing to note.  Last night after a bunch of beers I decided to throw in 4 new balls and play a game... it wasn't until about 3 minutes in that I realized that the new balls were leaving oil trails all over the playfield.... yes, apparently these new balls were covered in oil.  I spent another 2 hours this morning cleaning up the mess...

Pins: Iron Maiden, The Addams Family, Simpsons Pinball Party, Fish Tales, Goldeneye, Terminator 2, No Fear
Arcade: Galaga (MAME), Ice Cold Beer, Defender (JROK-multi), Donkey Kong/Donkey Kong Jr

all new balls are coated in that oil to prevent surface rust while they sit on shelves. :)

no harm, no foul, but a slippery slope. :P nice looking game! congrats on the results.
