Direct Input Switches

This bank of switches is where the wiring for the three flipper buttons plugs into the P-ROC.  For these switches you don't need a diode.

The past few days I've been hooking up some switches and trying to learn more about programming.

I've decided I have to route a new playfield so I'm going start making a new one but also keep the current playfield for test/programming. Also I be more aggressive in designing ideas when I'm not afraid to ruin it.

Things are going to change in the new playfield

-new B\W ball tough with opto boards like the late B/W games

-changing the spacing between the flippers to make the game harder.

Trying to route out switch holes with an edge guide looked like its not going to work out. Too messy and heard to make sure to make it clean and straight.



Going to make a template that uses on of these 1/4" bushings and a 1/8" bit so I can line up the home straight and see where it is before I cut.

I have to the redo the jig though for proper length and also its not perfect at the top but its straight and I will be able I route perfect switches all the same size and length anywhere on the playfield.

Inside Playfield look

I was set on making my own wire forms both because I wanted them to be custom and original. I had a few people mention to me that I should just use existing wire form ramps and design around them to be simpler and they would look good and I was sure I didn't want to.

But..

I have two wire form ramps off a game of which is a perfect match for the design I was doing for the Right ramp and very similar for the left ramp that might work if i design around it. I think I'm going to go with these wireforms(only one pictured) and concentrate on the ramps. Can you guess what game it's from?

Crazy Idea of The day(with random Internet pic-not me)

I was thinking what be a good idea for the water area of the playfield "realm and was thinking maybe "water". Not water exactly but It made me think on a Riplys BION toy my son has which is one if those plastic mazes with the oil and food coloring added to simulate the waves of the ocean. I guess it's a classic children's science project. Maybe I can fabricate a small acrylic tank with some decorations in side that will either where a plastic would be or flush with the playfield and ill route out a space in the playfield and the ball will roll over it. Maybe one end will have a small pump to simulate waves.

holy crap. looks good so far.

if you do the ocean idea, a shaker motor would probably make it move enough to notice in-game. you can also light it up with 2 spotlights under the playfield.

i think i know what the ramps are out of.

i'll have to run out there...working 40+ hours is sure not anything i'm used to since 2007

This is really cool!  The shaker motor to move the water is a good idea, that way it can stay contained and move without risk of draining/spilling into the playfield or cab.  You could also fabricate a plastic bridge on top of the ocean container as a ball rollover/guide to go with the theme - maybe as a guide into one of the wire returns.

I'm gonna be following this project for sure!
