Pinball News article on SPF

Interesting read.

http://www.pinballnews.com/shows/spf2013/index.html

There are many interesting comments in his review.  I can understand his point on some things. On other things, we have completely different perspectives.

Anyway, it was good that Florida pinball, the SPF, Donny, Leon (combine for Lonnie?) and Brian Dominy got exposure.

Winning (contests) isn't the word. I won it once. The rest of the time you're just defending-Rodney Mullen, skateboarding legend

I think it was a great read. Always good to see it through another persons eyes.

As everyone knows I have NO idea what goes on with the tournament, and so be it!!  That's exactly how I like it!!  But I do run the front of the house and I always take another persons view of the show with strong interest.  I met Wayne and his wife many times during the show and never had a clue he would write an article such as this.  I am pleased and happy to hear he enjoyed himself, had a great time, and found the "function" of the show seamless.  I always ponder the small things, what makes the show smooth for the attendee, what adds value to the player, and I am pleased to hear about his experience.  It was interesting to hear his view of the older machines being in better playing condition than the newer machines.  We always strived to provide a professional product not just for the collector, but for the general public as well.  I appreciate his outlook, good and bad, because it will only make Free Play Florida that much better in 2014!  Thanks for posting the article, it was an enlightening read and hopefully sheds some light about tournament play in the US to those who can not make the trek to play in the states.

-Lonnie

Lol,  between Lonnie and that Jim guy in Vero  :P that brought the Lion's share of Em's ... yeah nice to see a non-biased view of the show.  I wonder if Em's may be more impressive to a guy from England though for whatever reason, either they are more rare there and he's may be never seen many, or he just may be partial to them personally? But the fact remains that Jim does keep them all in great shape, and all are great examples of EMs!

I spoke with Wayne and Julie and he is quite partial to EMs.  They are not rarer there, but most shows in England are very heavily  dominated by the newest titles.   He and Julie only own a few games, and they often swap/rotate with friends, none of whom happen to be EM owners.  So, when he gets a chance to play an EM, he plays.

Thanks for all the props on the EM's. I, like all the collectors who bring games to the show, we strive to keep our machines in the best running condition for the duration of the show. Sometimes no matter what you do, something will malfunction and just drive you crazy. Knock on wood, the last 3 shows I brought games to, no problems. I am not bragging, but myself, Ron D and John I, do have some great EM's that seem to work great. One thing about EM's, that have to be played to stay in great working order. I am glad everyone enjoys playing these old games as much as I enjoy bringing them to be played. Until, APE, see you all soon.
Jeff (not Jim) in Vero

P.S. Sorry if you didn't play in the tournament and didn't get to play Air Aces, I did bring Air Aces to be played for the masses, but it was needed for the tournament. Maybe you can play it at APE.
