When you have to tap the holes that really is a DIY kit. I agree that handle does suck.

Assembled together.  It looks like there is quite of lot of fine tuning and leveling u need to do.  I guess I kinda assumes it would just go together and be square.  It definately is great for the money though so far.  Nothing that really compares to it from what Ive seen.  Now to do the electronics.

Cool, looks like you will probably get yours up and running before me.  I'm interested to see what u are going to be using for software.  In the past I've used solid works/mastercam and artcam but I'd like to use somethjng simpler maybe a 2d cad program and I've heard good things about maker cam.

i just opened up the serial port and pasted this:

$0 = 40.20
$1 = 40.20
$2 = 320.00
$3 = 30
$4 = 500.00
$5 = 500.00
$6 = 28
$7 = 255
$8 = 25.00
$9 = 0.050
$10 = 0.100
$11 = 25
$12 = 3
$13 = 0
$14 = 1
$15 = 0
$16 = 0
$17 = 0
$18 = 0
$19 = 25.000
$20 = 250.000
$21 = 100
$22 = 1.000

settings from here: http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/Grbl_Configuration

also, the java applet likes to spazz out and requires you to restart it sometimes, and the reset button on the motor control is your friend,

What kind of spindle are u upgrading to?  I had a dewalt palm router in my last CNC router.  Bought most of my bits from prescise bits which make awesome tiny router bits.

i am still researching it.

i am currently trying to sort out how to upgrade the one axis to dual steppers, or prevent belt slips.

the free spilndle they give is not the great :( don't over tighten the clamps, or it won't spin, i have had the end mill come loose and walk twice now, so really want to just upgrade it so secure the bits better.

ok, upgrading to the DW660  as it supports 1/8th & 1/4th end mills, mount kit available @ shapepoko site, NOT inventables.
