Bethesda Softworks and Amazon.com Announce Fallout 3 Survival Edition
The Fallout 3 Survival Edition will be available exclusively on Amazon.com.
 June 6, 2008 - Bethesda Softworks, a ZeniMax Media company, and Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN) today announced the Fallout 3 Survival Edition for Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and Games for Windows. The limited Survival Edition is now available for pre-order exclusively through www.Amazon.com/fallout3.

This ultimate Fallout 3 package includes a life-size replica of the Pip-Boy 3000, the wrist-mounted device worn by characters in-game. The Pip-Boy 3000 has been painstakingly recreated and modified for real world display as a digital clock. In addition to the Pip-Boy 3000, the Survival Edition will include all of the items included in the Fallout 3 Collector's Edition:

- The Fallout 3 game;
- Customized, metal Vault-Tec lunch box;
- 5" Vault Boy Bobblehead;
- 'The Art of Fallout 3' hardcover book; and
- 'The Making of Fallout 3' DVD

Other than the CGI trailer I haven't seen much about this - is it going to be more of an FPS or RPG? Not sure whether to get it for PC or X360.

It's based off the Obilivion engine. The screenshots I've seen thus far make it look pretty much like a Post-Apocalyptic version of Obilivion. At any rate I doubt it will be like the old top down versions..

I'll probably get the 360 version regardless. Actually if it doesn't have multiplayer I may got PS3 because of reliability issues which is kinda sad.

I'm guessing Fallout 3 is a continuation of 1 & 2, which are full RPGs.  They're innovative in being in a futuristic post-apocalyptic setting rather than Medieval times.  I've not tried 1 & 2 but they have been on my short list after I read several reviews placing them in the list of top RPG's of all time... and graphically Fallout 3 is obviously a huge jump since it's been a decade between versions.

Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics were incredible.  I never finished Fallout 1 but I did finish Fallout 2.  I was a little disappointed when I saw that they changed it from the 3/4 overhead view but Oblivion was a great game also.  So, hopefully the combo will work out.

Cool, but not so innovative as the Fallout series was actually born out of the best RPGs of the 1980s..



Even then there were plenty of Post Apocalyptic RPGs previous to Wasteland, I think by the mid-80s SSI had put out an RPG or game based on just about every possible topic you could think of that involved people fighting.

The question about Fallout 3 given it's new developer is if it will stay true to it's roots. Everything I've seen as far as promotional items etc. seems to show that it will.

Sign of the times I guess - the overhead perspective isn't as hip as first person. Oblivion was cool so hopefully Fallout 3 won't dissapoint.
