body/frame repair
« on: May 07, 2009, 07:22:15 PM »
Okayyyy, its been long enough. Time to get my car fixed.

I got a quote from a friend of a friend 'shade tree' car super-mechanic. he said $300. Got hit up from a STRANGER in the Publix parking lot willing to repair/repaint my problem for $480. Okay. Got a quote from the nearby shop who wants $834.

The Renegade et al, got a shop to repair a busted frame, dented front fender and front bumper that needs a repaint?

Own a Body and frame shop, I can not see how anyone will do all that for 3bills? Paint costs $35 a pint(min). E-mail me with a picture and I can give you an honest evo.

Steve, do you now that there is frame damage? I can't remember too detail on what was broken, but from what I rememeber front bumper r&r, pass fender r&r, maybe headlight? definately headlight mount (the plastic part) was broken right? you could fix that if you have all the pieces with some plastic epoxy if you are trying to be cheap, otherwise just replace the light.  Is the core support damaged? probably some damage to fender support braces and such, but that's not a big deal. Hood is fine right?

Either way, stay away from Mireks.

And $300 does sound too cheap to properly fix it, IIRC that paint is metallic which is harder to blend in with the surrounding undamaged bodywork, so figuriung just body filler, primer, paint and clear, plus renting a paint booth (really hoping this guy wasn't going to paint it in his driveway or something.. I've done that for small repairs where I had no other option, and we've painted Nate's race car in the garage/driveway before.. but...) and misc supplies (hardener, sand paper, etc) and you aren't leaving much room for labor cost...

if you have a tweeked/busted frame, you're looking wayyyyyyy above $300.00, unless he's going to chain your frame against a tree and throw your car in reverse 500 times...

and paint is expensive, even at body shop costs. $300.00 sounds like the cost of paint alone for what is described, but pics would help.
