A500 Keyboard Issue
« on: August 10, 2015, 03:20:18 PM »
As it goes with 30 year old equipment. The keyboard on a newly acquired A500 seems to have some issues.
1 caps lock light does not light up at all. But the keyboard will do All Caps when pressed.
2 Function Keys f1, f2, f3, f4 don't seem to work
3 Ctrl and Amiga keys inop
4 arrow keys inop

Troubleshooting thoughts? Is it the Keyboard or CIA chips or both or something else.

Thanks

Those older keyboards get funky under the keys..  usually have to remove the key then remove the button, take it apart and clean.  There's a number of tricks, but that keyboard is similar to the one found in trs-80 model 3/4 so do a quick google search for keyboard repair on those and there's some pretty exhaustive sites.

For what it is worth. Instead of fixing old keyboard (for now). I went with a Amiga 500 to ps2 keyboard adaptor. I was concerned that this was a  waste. But I was wrong. This thing actually worked. All function keys back ctrl-lamiga-r-amiga work they way they are supposed to. For around 50 bucks no complaints.

Thought I would share
