So you found a mario bros on craigslist, that's cute.

How's this one for a score?   Original store display that used to have the robot, NES, and Zapper in it complete with all the original pieces unbroken :)

It's actually TimC's, I just helped him make the grab before someone else could.

Definitely not something you see every day!

I wonder what happened to the display items.

Thanks for grabbing it for me Brian :).  It's going to look b1tch'n put together again just like it was in the 80's for Free Play Florida this fall 8) ;D.

Can't freak'n wait to see additional pics after you've cleaned it up ;D.  According to my research original Nintendo documentation states that the acrylic should only be cleaned with the tears of orphans and buffed to a shine using a white kitten :o.  Seems a bit excessive, but hey I'm not one to question the documentation...

The whole thing with the robot bundle when the NES first launched in the U.S. - I wanted one (of course) but my parents saw the price and said "No way. Never gonna happen."

Then they re-launched it a couple years later without the robot and a good bit cheaper - but I don't think I even realized it was the same thing. We eventually got a used NES years later.

It's scary how well marketing works - particularly on kids.  "Action Figures" - never even occurred to me as a kid that those were actually dolls. Thought never entered my mind, they were so careful to ALWAYS use the term "action figures". I don't think it dawned on me until one day an old lady said something about my "army dolls". I started to argue with her but realized... oh my god, she's right! They're dolls!

That's the first version of this display, but they revised it at least a couple times after its release from what I've read (the last revision didn't have the robot). Just looking at the pic Brian posted it would seem the display we scored should have a guide in it as well as some of the accessories.  Regardless the price was right ;) ;D and it's going to look awesome at Free Play.

If anyone else has cool console store displays/kiosks of any type and would like to share them with everyone I'm sure they could find room for cool stuff at Free Play this fall ;)

AMAZING pickup and restore. I remember dazing into that display and dreaming of playing with Robbie. This will be a great display for the console room.

Thanks for the comments guys and thanks for watching over it and fielding questions on it all weekend Patrick.  Hopefully I can find something cool for next year's console room 8)

The display just left the house today as an NES collector who contacted me via the Nintendo Age forums drove up from South Florida to buy it.  He was thrilled with it and I was beyond thrilled with the price  :)
