No idea on the hassles of filing a claim, but to get the best rates I've got to periodically switch back and forth between Geico and Progressive. Generally I'll sign up with one of them for 6 months (wish they did 1-year policies, but they don't), then 6 months later they'll raise the rates by a small amount, and 6 to 12 months after that they'll lose their damn minds and jack up the rates sky high for no good reason - no accidents, no claims, no change in coverage, same car, same address, etc.
So I have to switch back to the other one to get the rates down and the cycle repeats just like that again. Been like that for years. It's annoying bullshit. They seem to be under the impression that it's a big hassle to switch companies so customers will stay regardless of the price increases - but it's not, so I don't.
As for service Amica is supposed to be the best. Their rates are always higher than either Progressive or Geico though so I haven't gone with them. They also don't allow things like not having uninsured motorist coverage - which is probably wise, but it does increase the prices. I think they do offer 1-year policies though.
I've stayed away because I'm driving a 16 year old car and I want the insurance to be as cheap as possible - when I finally buy a new one I'll take another look at Amica.
