TBPL FEB MEETUP 2/27 @ REPLAY
« on: January 22, 2016, 10:32:14 AM »
Come join the Tampa Bay Pinball League for our monthly tournament, which is held every third Saturday (This month it is the 4th Saturday due to Florida Arcade and Pinball Expo being held on the usual weekend). Doors open at 11am, and we will start promptly at 2pm. Total cost of the tournament will be $20, with $10 going towards entry and $10 going to the pot.

We will be using the 2 strike format again, it seems to keep things moving and not a lot of down time waiting.

This will be for IFPA points.

Any questions or comments feel free to speak up  :)

Instead of being Assigned Games, can we just be randomly paired up and we pick the game? we had 20+ people at joes and the format he used worked very good. and with other people at the venue playing games we would not have to wait for them to clear, I felt i was standing around waiting to play for awhile ( although it does work 10x better then the old points method )

Any chance for a single-game high-score side tournament, ala Walking Dead last month? That gave those of us knocked out of the main tournament quickly (I think I was gone in 20 minutes!) something to shoot for the remainder of the day.....

It was a lot of extra work and hassle to run both at the same time. I will see what we can do. I MIGHT up it to 3 strikes instead of 2, I have not decided that just yet but I will make that decision depending on the amount of players. You're always welcome to play all the other games at Replay, maybe even challenge some fellow players to a head to head while ya wait!

We go with a select few games that we know are working correctly. Not all the games are fully functional and just walking up to a random game, you don't know if its working correctly. I don't mind adding more games into the group that we know are working. If we do that, then if theres a line for the game I can let the software redraw the match.

Same here. Got knocked out of league play with the quickness last time. If there's anything I can do to help lessen the hassle of the high score tourney, I'd be more than willing to assist in anyway I can. Not that I don't like the other pinball action at Replay but there's something about the competitiveness of trying to get that high score...

If you are playing only against the person you are playing, it doesn't matter on the condition of the game.  as you are only playing that person.  the players should just pick whatever game they want. (or one can pick game and the other picks position )

Then you would probably like the format of the tourney coming up at the APE.

The first phase is qualifying where you are trying to achieve the highest possible score on each game across a bank of machines-typically 5.  The scores are ranked from hi-to low 100, 90, 85, 84, 83 etc.  with 500 the maximum composite score on a bank of 5 games.   All composite scores are ranked against the other competitors to determine the top 16 players for the finals.  The finals are then match play with 4 players to a group, with 2 players from each group advancing until the final 4 match.
Winning (contests) isn't the word. I won it once. The rest of the time you're just defending-Rodney Mullen, skateboarding legend

When you show up just let them know at the front desk you are their for the tournament that's about all there is to it. I'll explain the format and everything just before we start.

Awesome. I'll probably either bring my friend or wife. I look forward to meeting everyone. Any idea how long this usually last?
Thanks,
Brandyn

I have a neon sign sitting at LSOG that Curly has been holding on to for me.  Is anyone near or passing by Curly's place able to grab this for me?  I'll be more than happy to pick up the tab for dinner for your troubles.

Thanks, Phil.
