3rd Sat April 16th TBPL ?? I'll Host

ok guys and gals, if we want to keep things on the 3rd Sat my business will finally start to slow down, and I can HOST on that date. Give me some feedback!

Do we want to not do it at replay as well?

I think we should stick with the Replay one , and then maybe do your place on the 30th?  that would put it between the april/may replay events?

Its up to you guys and gals of the TBPL...Don't get me wrong, I really like Replay, but I thought it was our DEFAULT place to meet up when no one is hosting? And I would not be able to host on the 30th, I have other commitments then.

If you're willing to host on the 16th lets do it and Yes Replay is our default location, I will post here and on Facebook when members invite us to their private collections instead of going to Replay. It will always be announced with at least a month notice. I will also remind everyone at our meet this month.

It is certainly a possibility that out-of-state players could show up, but most out-of-state players are not going to travel for literally a couple points.  For that matter, not that many in-state IFPA players travel very far for an IFPA event if there are not many WPPR points on the line or some other reason like a large prize pool. 

Basically, small, single afternoon style tourneys almost always only attract the "locals", so I would say to the TBPL not to be overly concerned about an influx out-of-towners.

There might be rare exceptions (like Eric W. was visiting relatives at the time of the last Replay event.  He was also here for APE as part of his vacation, but I know for a fact he did not fly into town just for a 2-strike event )

I agree with the "pinballcorpse" I really don't think a lot of people would travel for an afternoon of pinball, (out of towners that is) , do we REALLY have any that show up at REPLAY? It SEEMS like we have approx 14 to 18 heads there when we meet. I always extend a warm welcome to the guys and gals in the other clubs, and we get a few now and then when I do host. I have hosted 4 or 5 times now (here in Sarasota) and we average 30 to 35 guests. And not all are in the tournament. And a few of those are just my neighbors. IF 60 people showed up here YES I would be concerned, but I don't think that will happen.

Agreed, it is always a possibility. I've discussed it with Josh Sharpe and we can limit the number of attendees for private events. It has to be an open invite for the set number of players, RSVP first come first serve. Worse case though, it just won't be for IFPA points if that private collector doesn't want it to be a public invite, for that month.  No worries.

Also, along with what Jeff is saying, currently 1st place gets about 2 points from our 2 strike format. Most out of town players aren't going to chase those 2 points and little bit of $. It would cost them more in travel expenses than what they won.

If the host doesn't want more than 20 people then the IFPA advertisement can say limit 20 registrations.  It still qualifies as an IFPA event. 

All of the locals will know about it first and probably register before the out of towners.

And one more thing on the points; the last event was 1.76 points for 1st place.  Eric W., the highest rated player, came in 2nd and received 0.6 points.  So there is no guarantee the top ranked player will even walk away with one single point.

I'd love to make the monthly Replay events but it is way too impractical. Sure looks fun, which is why I love following what the clubs around the state are doing.  Local tourneys are where the biggest growth will be for the players chasing the SCS spots. Winning or 2nd place consistently every month for 12 months is not trivial!

And @pindan3, I always appreciate the open invites, but as you know it is a bit of a hike for a one day trip.  I'd be on the road way longer than I could even play. One day I will make it by

If you (or anyone) plays in an IFPA event and does NOT want the earned points or to be part of the WPPR point system, they can request to IFPA to be omitted and will simply be referred to as a "suppressed player"
