If the host doesn't want more than 20 people then the IFPA advertisement can say limit 20 registrations. It still qualifies as an IFPA event.
All of the locals will know about it first and probably register before the out of towners.
And one more thing on the points; the last event was 1.76 points for 1st place. Eric W., the highest rated player, came in 2nd and received 0.6 points. So there is no guarantee the top ranked player will even walk away with one single point.
I'd love to make the monthly Replay events but it is way too impractical. Sure looks fun, which is why I love following what the clubs around the state are doing. Local tourneys are where the biggest growth will be for the players chasing the SCS spots. Winning or 2nd place consistently every month for 12 months is not trivial!
And @pindan3, I always appreciate the open invites, but as you know it is a bit of a hike for a one day trip. I'd be on the road way longer than I could even play. One day I will make it by
