Any tire deals around?
« on: March 14, 2016, 11:08:01 AM »
It's time for new tires on my Jeep Wrangler.  Anyone know of any good tire deals or locations?

I've found that Discount Tire beats the competitors in most cases hands down.  They don't deal with all the other garbage either except tires, and balancing.  They don't do oil changes or brakes or anything else.
Places are immaculate and the service and staff are great.  I've had nothing but good experiences here.

Thanks for the CL tip, didn't even think about that, there are a bunch of local ads where people upgraded their stock tires.  My jeep is fully stock except for a new soft top.

That CL tip is a good one.

Since the late 90s I've been buying tires from tirerack.com and just having a local, reputable company mount them for me.

If CL doesn't work check it out.

craigslist, great tip! that's what I do, I actually put other car brands on my vehicles, run the tires out, sell them off and make some money. I've also purchased cars, taken the rims/tires, put stock junk back on, just to sell the car off.

I'm running a pair of 19" Mercedes Benz rims on the rear of my element right now. with 18" Mustang fronts. :P

I also have a good friend in the tire business, so that helps too (but surprisingly, I use my tire/rim trick). just purchased brand new Ruff rims for 3 bills, and I'm taking the tires off a set of mini cooper rims, then selling the cooper rims back on craigslist. :)

I also pickup rims/tires for $35 each from a tow yard. that helps with the 300zx, which I DESTROY rear tires on weekly. ;D

rats, what year jeep? you have a 5x4.5 or a 5x5 lug pattern. you can cross reference here:

pics: tire stash, purchased a civic to steal the rims, element on 19s/17s temporary, 4x4 explorer with jeep rims, 300zx.

+1 For Discount Tire.  They are actually running a deal on Ebay through 3/16 (I think) for $100 off a $400 tire purchase.  If your tires are $200+ each, you can double dip with the coupon.  Also many manufacturers are doing rebates now which stack.  You get free rotation, balance, and repair.  I'm never in there more than 30 minutes to an hour for a rotation and balance.

I have a 2005 Wrangler unlimited, it has the 5 x 4.5" lug pattern, which sucks because all the tires i see on CL are for the JK jeep which has the 5 x 5" pattern

your craigslist wheel sellers are idiots with asking pricing up there. $1000 with bald tires? :P

most ads I clicked on are <-1/2 the asking price down our way. this is all that's even somewhat reasonable:

sucks, I just sold these last month:

good luck.

Thanks for looking/helping.  I have contacted the guy in your first tire link you posted, picking them up tomorrow for $200.

It works out great since those are already on the rims, I have been missing my spare for years since it was stolen.  So, I will be able to take my best current tire and put the spare mount back on the jeep.

That 3rd set looks pretty good, but those others, not so much IMO...

they sprayed them black. I can spray a set of wheels with tires mounted in 1/2 an hour, any color. I cut sections out of a coke box, line the tires, tape off the weight and the valve stem, denature alcohol them, and spray.

actually helps my cost to buy wheels when somebody does a lazy flat black spray job. :)

The tread depth looked better from the pics. Obviously you would want to measure.  It didn't look so great on that first set to me.

I used to to do the same for VWs though.  Had pretty good luck buying practically new tires and rims for ~$300 to $400 then selling the rims for roughly that after using up the tires.

I'm not worried about the rims sprayed black, I sprayed mine with black plasti dip 2+ years ago and they have held up great.  I emailed the guy with the 3rd set as well, waiting for a reply.  Yeah, it's hard to tell the wear from the pics on the first set, I'm not going to pick them up if they are too worn.
