Your testing it wrong, take all the balls out, and then one at a time, drop and watch the switches.  Your looking for one that hits and misses, maybe registering twice then not at all.

so then Id be looking for a ball trough switch that closes 'sort of" but intermitterdly opens thus the switch up front wants to send a second ball a the first one didn't register? jeesh....Im pretty sure I follow the logic, gotta make sure nothing like a screw or something didn't somehow fall in ball trough making for a "high point" that a ball could rock back and forth opening and closing a switch,
yeah this all makes sense when its getting explained.
I have take a break here from working on the game. my knee is getting sore and I don't want to push the amount of time IM NOT on the crutchs. not that any spot is good but I broke my leg right  up on top almost in the knee. when its pissed off it hurts.
I shall get back with yall when I can give you a update!
thanks folks

south park is a 4 ball multiball game (but it is supposed to have 5). I'm wondering if you have 1 trapped in a subway somewhere (game knows one ball is outside of the ball trough, so it kicks 2 out because logically, it has 5 there when it should have only 3 (plus 1 in the mystery location and 1 in the shooter lane).

I had this issue once with a DMD game. 6 ball game. kept firing 2 out. optos all checked out fine.

so I took a ball out. issue fixed. didn't know why it was doing it. didn't care. game played 99.94%.  :)

VICTORY is OURS!!!!!!!! sayeth the right reverend weeze
HALLA a LOO YA and pass the mothers car wax we have discovered all things SEGA>
ok mysterious 6th ball I ,thats right ME< I added to the game yesterday morning and then discovered I had 6...so ENTRE MON FRERE of the double ball shooting. shoot , my bad on that.
now once I figgerred out how the switch matrix on screen works it all made sense at once. I think whats confusing is that at rest the only switchs closed are the ball trough ones.....so why isn't the ramp switch showing up???? AHHHHHHHHHH sayeth BETSY the LABRADOR , "that's cuz no other switch is closed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! well no shit, ok I get it. so instead of looking around for a spot I went and hand activated the ramp swith which somehow , someway had got its pig tail hung up on it. straightebed that out and VOILA!!!!!!!
now this all said, there WAS a problem on those trough switchs, BY going in and fiddling with the switchs I mustve shot off whatever dirt was on there so it started counting the balls correctly.
So THANK YOU EVERYONE! problem solved AND owner has learned about how to operate this self diagnosis on a SS game to find a error. thts probably more important. they don't have those on EMs so Ive had little if any exposure to this type of stuff.
 PARTY ON DUDES!

nah, I cant do shit with these solid state games.
So today Ive pretty much vegged out cuz I think I did too much on my broken leg, Im kinda paying for it today.
I did play one game, got the multi ball lit, went up the ramp {fixed that ,wire tangled} and into EL TOIDY the ballwent and......nothing.
also on every ball whenit drains you have to sorta beat on the flipper buttons to recognize tha ball is over and drained, plus put a new one up I the shooter lane.
so basically heres what I think, as much as my opinion isn't worth much on these SS games, I think I have a bunch of shitty switchs, possibly more then one maybe as many as three.
1, the one that registers the ball in the toidy. now it rolls over a switch before it comes to rest but I cant tell if theres a "upplunger"to shoot the ball back.
2. one of those in the ball trough even though they register when you test them and drop the balls down the trough one at a time. and
3. whatever registers the ball has drained.
now is there anyone that would be interested in making a "house call"? im in North West Port Charlotte right on the border of Sarasota county and the town of North Port. If there isn't anyone near enough whos the closest to me. Im thinking its the boys at the ASYLUM as theyre about 45 minutes away and in a few weeks I can be able to load into my truck to take it down there. ATARI JIM is definitely a ways away but I may have to settle for that.
Plus I have family flying in form New York on Saturday so I cant be on here much in spite I wont be going anywhere with them.
So my friends this is where Im at. I really appreciate all the help, I mean I did make one repair and I did learn how to read that sitch matrix so that's good. Any advice is ,of course, more then welcome!

Said early on in this thread. The Trough issue Are you looking at these Switchs too?  #14 and #15 do they register? These are your optos one set is for the trough and one set is for the the 5 ball stacking. These do flake out and can be intermediate. There is also a Kenny opto #42  On optos  test, Clean, Align and let us know.

+1
Cleaning & alignment only keeps them going for so long. Mine started spitting 2 balls again so went ahead and replaced these on the HD yesterday. If they are intermittently fritzing out on you, spend the $15 and replace both boards. It's only 6 nuts and 2 connectors, no soldering, and your issue with launching too many balls will be gone.

You can't see the optos with your naked eye, but a digital camera will pick up the light from the emitters. If you can see the clear LEDs, hold the camera where you can take a picture or watch the preview screen and you'll see them as bright spots.

Here's the old and new. Replacement has a sturdier build.

I.m actually not as dense as I come off. I just think I should ask questions with a "talk to me like Im stupid" format so I definitely DO understand the advice Im getting.
Can I get those optos boards from Curly ya think?
Hers the only other actual problem I have and that is that the ball goes down the toidy and doesn't get ejected back into the ball trough during play, right?, so I think what you are saying is that the optos also would affect the ball sitting below the toilet correct?
I think we all have seen and played games where balls that have drained the game is real sluggish and then you kinda beat on the flipper buttons a bit and everything works, kind of lets bump up the amperage around all the componets type of deal. I have that also.
so maybe, just maybe those optos getting replaced may possibly fix most ot the stuff ,,,I hope so anyway. thing isabout half the time Ican play a full 5 ball game with nothing going wrong. damn in consistent componets!!!! ;D
so what do I callthose opto boards and where to get them?
thanks folks!
