anyone ever come across this kind of rim damage?
« on: April 05, 2017, 09:30:05 AM »
I've seen many rims destroyed, even ones driven on with no tire for 10+ miles... a 17" mustang rim worn down to about a 10 inch disk.

but never have seen the mid section of the wheel blown out with such minor damage done to the inside lip, it's a BMW M3 wheel:

Yes.

Being a parts manager at a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealer I've seen all kinds of crazy stuff but I know that we don't always get the truth on how it happens.

Looks like manufacturing defect but who knows.

I'm thinking he nailed a curb, but length wise...

My guess would be impact with something in the road with low tire pressure or at a high rate of speed.

Whoah, that's a serious damage with great pressure gone through the metal.

Even split the tire! I'm curious to see what they hit, not much of a surprise if those are old replicas though.

Could be so much pressure on the tire.

I have been in the car business 35 years. I have seen some wild stuff about rims but not like that. I do remember seeing a rim come in with three railroad spikes drove all the way through the tires and through the rims and breaking them in half
