to be clear, this isn't just because Honda has a giant <3 for the US, American workers, etc. One of their motivations is that as the Yen gets stronger against the US dollar... uhm.. something or other makes it better for them to build cars here.

It all actually started with Toyota and their JIT concept, at a time when the dollar was very strong and the yen was weak, so that's only a temporary truth IMO.
JIT manufacturer/assembly/distribution is far more streamlined than the older "everything is built here, from stockpiles of parts, to be delivered way over there..." method. Unfortunately, the US made parts and the US based workers still build a lower quality vehicle than a "100%" (obviously not all of the parts are made in Japan
