SNES Mods getting closer!
« on: October 06, 2017, 10:10:00 AM »
For those of you not following him.

Cluster_M who refined the NES mini hack that we know today: Hakchi 2

Is getting closer to releasing the SNES mini Mods.

Things we know right now:

- SNES roms needs to be switched from .snes to .sfrom
- There has been a python script created to do this and its been implemented into the newest Hakchi 2
- The hardware is EXACTLY the same as the NES mini, so you will NOT be able to get all SNES roms onto the system (roughly 750ish games)  -- you will be limited to 300mb of writable space - thus currently 70 games total load
- they are working on compression techniques but no 100% confirmed working .zip/.7z though its been hinted (allowing for more than 70 games)
- 75% of all the games ran through the script work - there seems to be somthing causing them to fail.
- the sfrom seems to use the Wii U virtual console version of the snes games/hex information .. headers and footers are stripped out of the roms and certain bytes to identify hi/lo roms, sfx chip games etc.

Sounds like we might see  a release in the next few days for sure!

I did mine and it was super easy.

It backs up your old files in case you want to revert it.

It was about as hard as adding songs to My iPod/phone.

So far all my friends and I that have one have done it with no problems.  I think it's pretty safe.

The Hakchi2 update is really nice, as it works for all of the Nintendo Classics now.  I modded my SNES Classic and I could not be happier.  So easy and so worth it.

Gamestop got them back in today.. and ..... they are gone.

Gamestop in Brandon got 6 (sold out at 1:30ish), Gamestop in Brandon Mall got 12 sold out at like 10:30/11

and Think geek soldout online somewhere between Noon and 2 (not sure when - my phone wouldnt let me get into their linked page)

Meanwhile..

MOST of the snes games work on the hakchi 2.21b  - a handful that dont work.. system can take about 175 ish games.

Man has this hack progressed.  I have my snes classic hacked with 3000 games via the otg usb mod.  Now they have online achievements and netplay...

I’d love to have mine setup for the few dozen NES and SNES games.

That's awesome.  How hard is it to do?  Keep in mind that I'm not that computer savvy.

wtf -- online achiements and netplay on the snes classic?!? pfft  I dont need all that.. I didnt even usb mod mine.. i dont want another device hanging outside of my snes classic.. I was working on the micro sd adapter and screwed it up so I skipped it.. honestly out of all the games on the snes - there are only like 40-50 I would play anyhow so the 227 that I can add to the direct system is fine for me..

I put all 700+ of the nes games on my nes mini if i want to play those. and I have a raspberry pi modded for everything else.. so.. meh.

you can just install an SD card adapter inside to the USB port if you want to go all getto, the OTG cable + Micro USB drive just ties up to the existing power cable without much issue.
