Big Mac coins
« on: August 04, 2018, 08:27:48 PM »
2018 is the 50th anniversary for the big mac and Thursday was what would have been the 100th birthday for the inventor. To mark the occasion McDonalds made a coin for each decade for a total of 5. They were/are being given out when you buy a big mac and until the end of the year you can turn in a coin for another big mac. I looked on ebay because I liked the design on a couple of them and people are stupid. Looking under completed listings they have been selling for $12 and up with many sets of 5 sold for $60 and up. They made over six million of them so it's not like the schezuan  sauce.

I stopped by my local McDonalds and they said they have plenty of them but also said they have had people come in and buy 20 or more big macs just to get coins.

I miss the old styrofoam F*ck the environment packaging

I dunno..people sure do like collecting stuff.

Seems kinda dumb to collect these though... not as dumb as bitcoin but its close.

I've always found Checkers to be the home of the stomach punching burgers.

I ate a Big Buford once.

Only once.

The Quarter Pounder is better since they switched from using frozen beef.  Sub some Mac sauce and it's really not bad when they are doing the $1 sandwich promos.  If you eat at McDonalds, get the phone app.  McDonalds at full price?  There are much better options.  McDonalds with the app discounts?  It's so damn cheap, it's good enough.

You know what was actually good? when they had the junior mac smaller version

tasted the same but one patty, less bread/ calories etc

when I do eat a big mac once in a while i will actually yank one of the bread pieces out, its more balanced that way.

I had one the other day so I could get my coin but really didn't enjoy it. First off opening it up a whole head of shredded lettuce popped out. After clearing out all the lettuce I had to take most the sauce off, a huge scoop that covered each patty with about 3/4" of sauce. The patties seemed smaller than the standard burgers. Not that I needed or wanted it but didn't they used to have two slices of cheese? I knew for most the day I had eaten a big mac.

What I wanted to point out though is the absurdity of people spending so much money on coins they could get at their local McDonalds. I even saw a 'manager's kit' with 225 coins listed for $19,000. Wouldn't McDonalds want to know about a manager taking a give away item and selling it on eBay?

I remember that actually being a good burger. The burgers on the mac were really pathetic. Not just the size but the look of them. I don't eat burgers all that much anymore usually only when I make them or a couple local places but even then maybe once a month. The big mac patties just don't look like a burger.

I miss the early days of Checkers, when they had the 1/4 lb Champ burger for 99 cents, and their IMO, much better version of the Big Mac - the Double Deville (or something like that).

Now it's the 99 cent "Checkerburger" rather than the Champ, which of course isn't 1/4 lb, it's tiny, and crummy - doesn't come with lettuce & tomato like the Champ used to either. I think you can still get the Champ, costs much more now of course, and last time I tried one (several years ago) it wasn't any good. Barely edible in fact.

All the Checkers locations seem to be dirty, the staff outright surly and I had them try to short change me a couple times. Haven't been to one for a couple years now and no plans to ever go back again.

i have one across the street, and i wrote them off this year. the food isn't great, but their specialty coolatas can be awesome with vodka ;D

i had your exact issue. i made an order, figured out price in my mind...get to window, it's double the amount. i figure, OK, i missed something.

i didn't...no receipt, whoever took the order pocketed the extra money...or all of it.

they do seem to attract the worst employees on earth.

i like big macs. and turtles...

I remember it has a big plop of some kind of mayo on there which made it a bit unique for them

I always thought the idea was funny as shit with the two sided container

I think the idea was to compete with the whopper which was similar size and mayo.

Also just realized I know way too much about this crap food.. maybe I should rethink my life.  :P
