Has anyone added a simple jukebox to their retropie setup? I dont want streaming music or anything like that, just want to add a bunch of MP3 songs and have a way to select and play them.
I have seen people having kodi in their retropie. As Kodi has a jukebox mode, it seems possible

Mine has Kodi, but more complex than I want. Too much extra crap to wade through for me. I need a dead simple music player that I can load MP3 songs into, nothin more.
I used to have an awesome jukebox program on my old MAME machine,  you loaded your MP3 files up, there was a juke themed screen with the songs listed to scroll through with the joystick, select and play.
All I can find for retropie features “ 60 live music channels! Streaming music from 90 different sources!
Link all your favorite songs and videos to Twitter and Facebook!”
No, no, and no. I want something just as simple as I am! A few hundred installed songs I can select and play from an easy to use interface.

I have a first gen raspberry pi and they seem slow for retropie.  Rasp pi 3’s look like they are solidly supported for retropie.  And, it looks like as a couple of weeks ago they built an image (4.6) that beta supports the rasp pi 4.  Is anyone running a rasp pi 4 with retropie?  Or should I just upgrade to the 3?  And if 3, just 3 or 3B+?

OK, based on some more research I went with the 3B+.

I got a rasp pi and loaded the retropie image.  Figuring out which ROMs play is now the next challenge.

You should be able to download a set based on the MAME version it's using. There are also a lot of preloaded build out there that do this for you.

For arcade roms this page tells you which romsets to use: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/MAME

Thanks guys.  I got this running via an image.  Then I added daphne today and got Dragon’s Lair running.  Slick for such a little form factor.

I would like to remap the controller for the arcade roms.  I think most of them use libreto-2003.  My problem is the directionals are mapped to the left stick and not the directional pad.  So if I use a PS4 controller no problem but if I use a retro game pad then the directional arrows do not work for arcade.  I searched on this one with no luck so far.  I even remapped the controller for daphne so it seems like editing in a similar way, just not sure where to find the proper file or if that is correct.

Thanks for any direction.

If you plug a keyboard in, you can hit TAB in all of the versions of mame to adjust the controls.

Thanks, tried it, no response from keyboard but it works in ES.  I spent a good part of the day today going through retroarch config files and input settings to no avail.

Next steps were I deleted all the controller mappings and reset emulation station controller settings and fully removed retroarch and reinstalled it and still no luck.  After all that resetting the keyboard still does not respond in arcade.  I remapped the usb gamepad (snes style) and directionals still do not work in arcade.  Must be something hard wired in the version I am using.  So for now I will just use the PS4 controller as that one works across the board.  I will search out another image or start from scratch and go from there.  Thanks for all the help, still a great solution for running many games.

My experience with emulators is 90% of the time, issues come from bad or missing drivers or computer settings, and has nothing to see with the software itself. Hope it helps.

Loaded a clean build of retropie v4.6 and the snes gamepad controller works, thanks all.  Good project with more to explore.

I'm a dumb ass when it comes to this stuff. I will just buy one already good to go. Plug and play.
