Topic is a bit old (but the games are older!). There are a ton of retro handhelds coming out these days. I picked up a Powkiddy V90 (Gameboy Advance SP clamshell case) and an RG351p recently. Lots of custom firmware being developed now, and you can load ROMs onto them easily via sd card. Most play up thru PS1 games, some play many (not all) N64 and Dreamcast games too. The V90 is cheap and cute, the RG351P has a solid build and really nice screen, 2 analog sticks and 4 shoulder buttons, etc.

As for tv units, it's easy to find firmware w emulators for converting android tv boxes to retro emulators. Best boxes have 2-3 usb ports for wired/wireless controllers. Bluetooth is also an option in some cases.
