Car auction Saturday in West Palm
« on: May 17, 2019, 12:14:42 AM »
There is an auction Saturday in West Palm to sell the a bunch of cars some guy's collection.  Looks to be about 170 lots but way too many look to just be parts/scrap.  I want to go since he is the guy I sold my Checker taxi to probably 6+ years ago and it is one of the lots.  When I sold it I was hoping it would go to someone with the deep pockets needed to give it a good restoration but it appears to have sat outside since he got it and appears much worse for wear.  He looks to maybe be a bit of hoarder as most of those cars seem to have sat neglected outside for a long time.

Anyways, there isn't enough there for me to justify a 4 hour drive down, but if anyone is going I would really appreciate some pictures of the car.  I'm really curious about it and there are just a few pictures in the auction listing.

the bulk of those cars have been outside since the 2005 hurricanes, untouched. the only building on the property had the roof blow off, and the walls fell down a couple years later.

there are also cars that are being added. not really trusting of that. i'll probably go, but it's all trash if it was on that property. the dave rupp name has been used in other car auctions this year.

i took a ton of pictures of this place and the cars 5 years ago, because of all the rare stuff just sitting there. movie cars, munsters vehicle, betty boop wind up car, a split window 60s bug, etc...

:)

What a mess. So many nice cars that are basically scrap now. Some could be parts vehicles and maybe a dozen could be restored and that is being generous.

ya, but some pictures are cars being bought in. i can tell you, by the link's pictures, of what has been sitting there physically since 2005.

where's the split window vw? that was the nicest car left out there back in 2014.

doug's checker never hit this location. this location has been untouched since 2005 (except some security), with lawsuits going on with multiple insurance companies over damage/hurricane coverage.

as they sat, they got much worse.

the triumph bikes were in the garage, as well as the coke paraphernalia...

Mine was the yellow taxi with the ""NC Taxi" on the quarter panels.  If anyone is interested in it I posted on the village with details of condition when I listed it on ebay http://villagebbs.com/forum/index.php?topic=17206.msg151583#msg151583  I have no idea if anything else was done to it since then and from what I can see there is a bit more rust, paint fade, and the taxi light on the roof is missing - I hope someone patched the hole when it was removed since the interior was in pretty good condition when I sold it.

ah, most of those cars were actually buried in tree overgrowth. there's more cars than i thought were even tucked under all that foilage.

in 2014, this car was in near perfect shape (i think this one had been there for only a couple of months...). so there you go...it's all trash now:

i remember dug's checker cab. it's in much worst shape, but it wasn't out there (in plain site) when i last was, roughly 2016...

i can tell some of the stuff they've added. both buses, for example. there were zero buses out there.

all the coke stuff was also inside, with the triumph bikes.

After looking at the auction pictures I think that bug would be the only thing I would bid on.

if i didn't have to drop 100 bucks to prebid and then wait all damm day, i would own that bug. ;D

but as it is, i will probably run, snap some pics and get a bunch of dug's ride, hopefully. trying to get mojo116 to run out there with me. :)

and i powered up my old PC (2 upgrades since), and found some of the pics i took in 2015...you can recognize some of the cars in the auction from my snaps.

and that garage i was in? it completely fell apart in 2016ish...probably explains why some auction cars are squished...

this is the thread that made me jump the fence back in '15 to get a lot of pictures. :) i'll have to dig up another old PC to see if they're on another HDD.

hurricane matthew leveled most of the remaining 2 buildings...

https://barnfinds.com/mystery-palm-beach-collection/

they are ALL parts cars, per Rupp a few years ago...not including cars/buses being shipped in for auction. this was basically a graveyard after multiple hurricanes, insurance issues.

oh, and it has been cherry picked already, from the barnfinds thread and my pics vs what's up for auction. :P

Since most everything else there is trashed it wouldn't be surprising if the beetle goes for a decent price.

Thanks in advance for any pictures!

hey dug? did you sell that checker to rupp? it's his collection...the dunn name was also thrown around, but it sounds like it's rupps collection. rupp owned moroso raceway at some point.

i can tell you at least in late 2015, your checker was not on this property. that's promising, it probably still runs. :)

Yes, it was Dave Rupp who bought it.  I have a some emails from him when we were making arrangements for shipping from Jacksonville.  I think I talked to him a couple times to figure out payment and logistics.  The transaction went great and he seemed like a good guy from the limited times I dealt with him.  I wonder if he is still around or maybe passed on and the family is clearing up the estate?

Also, from the email I sent him it was picked up from my place on 5/26/13.  I can't remember anything about where it was actually shipped though.
