The Pinburgh hype machine cranks up
« on: July 02, 2019, 08:31:59 PM »
I am looking forward to going to this tournament. It will be something I may talk about for a long time. Unless I do poorly, that is. Then I may never speak of it again!

Someone had a lot of time on his hands and is trying to predict the first-round brackets. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1m-wqgnHcUU5JnWgp8v3cJlj-wjCoYSui/view

Wouldn't these matchups be interesting (if any of this is legitimately going to happen, which I will bet it won't)...?

Escher vs. Anthony Dickson
David Riel vs. Dan Spolar (Aren't they already nearby?)
Levi vs. Ron Donohue (Boom!)
Louise Wagensonner vs. Braden Gentry
Amy Kesting vs. David Paz

It's fun to dream (and hype), I guess.

Well those are based on everyone showing up and with 1000 people chances are it may not be accurate plus it’s only the first round. Pinburg is a marathon not a sprint. The first few rounds are fun and your head will be spinning with excitement and Adrenalin. Where the rubber hit the road are the last couple of rounds of the day. If your goal is to qualify in A you need to average 8-9+ plus per round. If your mortal then B division will require 7-8 points/round. Try to keep your head about you. There will be rounds that you may not do well in don’t let it get you down. Take solace that the next round you will be playing others that suffered a similar fate. Get points when you can because you will be playing against top notch players on machines you have never played before and if you have they will be set up differently than you expect. A couple of suggestions on what to bring:
1. Comfortable shoes with memory foam insoles.
2. Snacks healthy or not (both) the venders are ok the restaurants can be a hike.
3. Filtered water bottle. Hydration is key.
4. Anti fatigue mat or chair 12+ hours of standing on concrete is brutal and saps your energy.
5. USB battery pack and backup earphones.
6. Sweatshirt/ extra T-shirt /deodorant.  Lots of ripe fear sweaters in the crowd. Don’t be part of the problem.
7. Advil and any other over the counter meds Imodium etc.

I’m going to try and co-opt a table and set up camp for the Florida players. Look for an inflatable palm tree. The Canadians do this so they can hang out and support each other between rounds. Will have extra snacks to share. Julia should be joining me so she can also help us procure things during rounds. Should be a great time. Remember get there early! Don’t be late and don’t play out of turn. Look forward to another amazing tournament!!!
Al
Danny,  there's a lot of.... Well badness in the world today. I see it in the court everyday. I've sentenced boys younger than you to the gas chamber.... didn't want to do it.... felt I owed it to them.

I’ll be there, but not competing.
Good luck to the players!

I'll be vacationing in lovely nearby Cleveland, so don't be surprised if the Batman might...MIGHT... be able to secure the  city and hop in the batmobile and be able to sneak down for some pinball for a day and Florida team supporting. As always, they locked down the tournament and won't let me play again because they're scared to death of the Bat...I'm used to that. Hope to see everyone there!
