Stern SW home edition
« on: July 18, 2019, 09:12:43 AM »
I'm really not a fan of Stern SW, I actually prefer the Data Est one.
I know previous attempt of home versions are not really collectibles.
Still, i think it's a smart move from Stern to target a different range of potential buyers with a cheaper and simpler table with such an universal theme.

I would also be interested in links, and believe me that I have opinions about every SW pin ever made, which I will keep to myself.

notes: they reuse Pro translites.

personal notes: there must be like, 13 magnets in play under the playfield with all that "Space". get it? home editions...the final frontier.

Yeah i think price will be the big problem. If these were like $2k or something maybe you can justify it but chances are they will be $3500-$4000 at least.. which at that point you could get something better.

Rumor has it, Priced at $3999..

yeah, Stern, its a flop, bad idea, 2999 maybe.. but not 3999... 1999 would of been a good deal.

Yeah it's going to fall into the same boat as the previous attempts at a "home version".

Obviously the goal is to appeal to the non-collector.. aka Joe Six-Pack.

However $4000 is waaay too much money for Joe Sixpack to impulse buy. Somebody serious about getting into Pinball will find even with the most basic of research (ie going to a Pinball retail place) that $4000 will get you a number of "legitimate" Pinball machines.. maybe used versus new but warrantied from the retail place just the same.

It would be interesting if somebody could come up with a more legit looking game for a reasonable price. What if somebody could knock off a beloved early SS game (ie not that many toys, simple scoring, etc) for under $2k? They could even cut corners with more plastic than wood as long as the playfield was left intact.. but nobody has done it.

I think the real problem is, if you are going to make a full sized Pinball might as well go for a $6k+ price tag as that's the market.

You know, if the price was 1000 bucks and they offerred a reasonable guarantee and availability of parts I can see it, at that price I really could see it. Might actually be a lot of pinball for the price. But at 4 k, stupid.  You can get a awful lot of pinball for that price, hell you could actually buy a Solid State game like a T2 or a good HIGH SPEED, and two very very good Ems for that price.
Stern, you have made a bad business decision on this. Im pretty surprised actually that they would attempt this.
and as always this is just my opinion.
you may return to your regularly scheduled program!

Oh hey, you guys that own own the full sized model, what do you think about the game playing itself on this game. I am unfamiliar with the play as I'm not around most of the newer games. Oustside of my own TWD I dont ever get to play new ones.

for me, star wars is decent in limited, premium formats. as with every other game, the star wars pro is stripped down.

now, i watched stern's gameplay video of this example.

it's garbage...would be a compliment. the jetsons owns this game for replay value.

i think the positive, is the star wars pro value has to go up with this thing hitting the streets.

they upgraded it with a 2004 garmin GPS.
