obviously there's some shennanigans going on behind the scenes.

Pinballs were what.. $3200 NIB for years.. then in like a 5 year period that jumped to the $5k+ prices we're seeing today.

Is it really that much more expensive to make a Pinball today than say 2005? No. no it isn't.

Then there's the whole Pro-Premium bit. Add a ramp and a couple of plastic bits and its $2k more? Riiiiight.

Not that I blame them, people pay it (myself included) they will keep pricing them that way.

I still don't understand why they keep trying to go after this mythical Joe Sixpack market. It seems like every 3-5 years they give it a go.. but the answer seems to be always the same.. nobody is going to pay 80%+ the price of a normal pinball machine for a neutered version.

They should be able to redo the classics, such as Space Invaders, Xenon, Flash Gordon and others for $2500, granted not exact replica's, but decent full blown home versions.

I think once they set the bar high for the non home versions and it worked it won’t ever go back down.   They also must think they can’t sell enough volume at a lower price point to make a go of it.   Maybe they get joe six pack to see how much better a non home version is a few jump in and get a 6-7k one?

I'm not sure $2500 nib can still exist with the present distributors margin and shipping costs. But a 3K+ NIB Fathom or Centaur would be a no brainer for most of collectors.

Geeze, I have read a few things here or there about oddball games at costco or some other place but I never paid any attention to it. These things are stupid.
chance of me paying 3 or 4 grand for something like that are about as high as me and Art watching the scientology channel!

well you just said it yourself.. people keep buying them price increases or not.  :P

Pinball has gotten crazy popular over the last few years and they are cashing in. They are a business not a charity I dont blame then at all for shooting for the moon on prices.

While i cant figure it out for the life of me there must be something working for them on these stripped down models.

They keep doing it which tells me it works for them on some level, they must sell otherwise they would have tried once and gave up.

I'm assuming the margins are a lot better?

Are these stripped down models working though?

Each time they release 1 or maybe 2 tops then you don't hear about them again for years and years.

It seems more like they are testing the waters every few years to see if anything has changed.

This pin isn't for anyone on this board, but there is a market.

I had a friend looking for a Spider-Man pin for his son and had a $3,000 budget.  I was able to get him a used home version and his son is having a blast.  The only repair needed to date was a flipper return spring.  $4,500 NIB is a little much, though.

I am serious. The first mod should be a thin LCD screen that replaces the translite. We know it's Star Wars. Let's make those video clips pop! (I think they did a great job with the videos and everything here. The game itself looks fun and challenging.)

That's a fantastic idea, might as well make the whole back box a video screen and they could use clips from the movies for applicable pins, and make animated scenes for other pinball machines that take up the whole screen instead of Simply a small score panel

and then compete with yellow brick road wizard MSRP at $12,500. ;D

please, people...do not give stern any more ideas. :) when stern's cost more money, EVERYTHING from the past costs more money.
