This storm has been so interesting -- yet stressful and at times terrifying -- to see develop & change over the last number of days.  (For reference, I'm on the Space Coast.)  A few days ago, it was "pfft, it'll barely be a TS when it gets here" ... then "oh crap it might be a hurricane now and it's comin' right for us!" ... then "oh nm we'll probably be ok here, it, heading for south FL" ... then "oh crap it's comin' right for us again!!!" ... then "holy crap now Cat4??" ... now "oh look hopefully it's gonna keep moving east/north and maybe stay off land" ... but ultimately who the heck knows.  Just goes to show how wildly unpredictable nature can be.  The cone of uncertainty covering the entire state doesn't really help with planning on what to do.

Everyone stay safe, wherever you are.

Damn nature, you scary.

OK you guys got a  few questions here so Im gonna be serious for about the 6th time in my life.
Buddy of mine made me a couple of 220 "pigtails'.
Now is THIS correct? Speak up please so I don't electrocute these bastards coyotes that have been appearing at night around my end of the county. OK so power goes off. looks bad and I do live on the last grid in the county to get back up cause my grid is really small.
 So power is of.......
!. turn off the main remembering that it is off and remember to watch my ass when I go back on line and don't catch a FPL guy off guard.
2  main off  so turn off all the individual breakers in the box. So now EVERY BREAKER IS OFF, I check, double check, triple check.
3.  Now I now power up the what? 5500 hundred watt generator and plug in the pig tail and run it to the dryer plug and plug it in.
4. Having thought about this I figger what do I have to have? The bedroom ,so I turn on that breaker to the main bedroom where i have already located a couple of really good fans. Plus this is where the wireless is so if thats powered up Ill have internet. this is good because the phones will be down and I actually am the last guy on earth who does not have a cell phone, so internet is really good. Also have dss number 2 in the bedroom so I got TV.
5. To help keep things sane Ill run one cord to my fridge which can be unplugged to plug in the microwave, when done cooking back to the fridge. So whatever breakers that are in the kitchen I do not have to turn on.  When powering back up FIRST turn of the main, then slowly turn on the lesser breakers should be a easy draw as everything I own has been unplugged before I power back on. I have also unplugged pretty much everything in the house outside of the one bedroom so I shouldnt have much electrical draw when I go back on.
By all means tell me if this is correct or where something isn't right. I've used the generator last cane but I only used long extension cords. Ive been seeing that yeah you are NOT supposed to back feed and then read that yeah yeah its fine to back feed just remember to be careful going back on line.
 So what do yall think?????
one last question for yall, WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE THAT HAVE 18 LOVES OF BREAD, 114 CANS OF TUNA FISH IN THEIR CRIBS? Do they buy shit they don't normally buy? I mean come on, ALL the tortillas are even gone off the shelves and thats at 3:00 am. What are these idiots doing buying a thousand dollars worth of shit , you know milk only lasts so long and do you think its wise to expect NO problems regarding keeping things frozen> I am amazed, be careful, they will kill you just to steal your empty one gallon gas can, freakin people.
THank you and all comments welcomed! lets hope the damn thing just turns north and spares is all from all this bull shit.

edited. spiney norman gets credit for the reference. ;D

i think this, alone, makes florida a super state for the pinball playoffs. what other state traps the ball, and hits the carolina loop over and over again at will?

If you are going to go this route, I'd plug the generator cord in before you power up the generator.  You don't really want to be messing around with hot exposed wires which is what that plug will be.

How capitalistic of you comrade,  perhaps there is hope for you yet  ;)

It was old as hell, but not many hours on it and it was in great shape.  I tossed in a 30 amp extension cord.  It covered most of the cost my new generator though.  No more snaking extension cords throughout the house and my wife gets her hot water and I get my heat pump.  I do still need to sort out running it off of propane.

I wouldnt get too overconfident.. keep in mind they said Irma would hit Tampa

I left and went east and guess what? half a day later went right over my head 90 miles east of Tampa.  :P

so much for their computer models.

never thought about walking around with that pigtail in "hot" status, so to speak.
Even tho it looks like I will not have to use it I'm glad I made this post. Next time, I shall not have to bug people with my never ending questions. I'm pretty sure there are going to be more caes. Boy I hope that thing turns early. When and IF it does trun as predicted that would be a very good thing for BEEPNUTZ and all over there on the "left" side of the state.
I like the pinball map, thats a keeeper!
Seriously good luck to all that do in fact get hit over there .
another dumbass question. I get up this morning, turn on something and the guy shows a map with the cane turning north "26" miles off the coast. 26? How can that be accurate? they know that can't be accurate, whny ya telling people this stuff? jeeze what is wrong with people? Don't be saying shit like that, people will believe you and when its not true and someone  gets killed where they said the cane wasnt supposed to be, shit, thats all I gotta say bout that.

weeze, i wouldn't plug anything into anything. i hate to think this way, but most accidents/deaths blamed on hurricanes seem to be people prepping for those hurricanes or running generators inside.

NOAA or nobody. if 26 miles would be possible to predict, they would force the eastern seaboard to evacuate to Tennessee.

prayers go out to the bahamas...they'll need our support in the next coming days.

palm beach county has mandatory evacuations for mobile homes and barrier island locations.

The eastern half of Palm Beach County is now under a Tropical Storm Warning due to the approach of #HurricaneDorian. Due to this, mandatory evacuations are being ordered for residential structures in Zone A and Zone B in Palm Beach County, effective at 1 P.M. Sunday, September 1.
Zone A includes mobile homes, sub-standard housing and low-lying areas prone to water intrusion.
Zone B generally includes the barrier islands, land areas north and south of the Jupiter Inlet, and other surge-vulnerable areas south along the Intracoastal Waterway to Broward.

A1A in Flagler county is going to get destroyed (again).  They've got a good chunk of half of it ripped up with exposed sand.

thats a GREAT live feed there K7, thanks for putting that up.
I trust you have a extra case of beer and plenty of doritos and are ready to hunker down if needed.
Good luck to all in the path and be safe.

yep, that hilton is getting the worse of the backside of the storm now. Dorian is supposed to stop movement tomorrow, about 25 miles from where it is now, and hang out off our coast. :-\

then turn and move up the coast out in the water. for 12 hours tomorrow, supposed to move about 20 miles east.

watching how it's affecting the islands pretty much is how i'm planning for the day. near the eye, it's bad. 45 miles from the eye, it's tropical storm quality winds and rain.

we're on the weak side of the storm. so no beer. working tomorrow, open pinball house.  ;D
