It's a shame he kinda turned into a mega-douche last few decades. When he turned on Michael Anthony that was really rough.

However he was one of the best, you can never take that away. I caught the last Sammy Hagar Van Halen tour in 94? It was pretty spectacular.

Ugh...
I'm am very fortunate that the Van Halen tour hit Seatte juuust after I moved to Seattle in 2009!
To me Van Halen is far more deserving of a pinball machine than Led Zeppelin...

Exactly, hopefully a new pin will be in the works now.   If you want to read a great book about VH check this out by their manager.   It's got so much great info about their history:

I dont really get this stuff...

The only reason he ever got the band going at all later was he wanted to play with his kid. There would have been no band post 2006 otherwise.

Mike Anthony seems like a nice dude but frankly Ed played bass on allot of their stuff and otherwise told him what to play 75 percent of the time.

The fact that they split publishing was always an issue later since he MA didnt really contribute anything to the writing other then backing vocals and that pretty much drove the wedge over the years.

hard to feel bad for a guy who has 1/4 publishing on one of the most played bands ever for barely doing anything.

Replacing Michael Anthony’s picture with those of Wolfie on their older album covers was a douchie move.

Yeah man I don't get this take at all. We know Eddie is a douche.

When it was Eddie Vs. David Lee Roth, well OK it's David Lee Roth.

Then it was Eddie vs. Sammy Hagar. Even Sammy isn't sure what happened there really.

Then it was Eddie vs. Michael Anthony who apparently can't even play Bass now? Come on.. everyone called bullshit on that including Hagar who took Michael into his band.

In the mid-90s it became obvious Eddie drank too much of his own Kool-Aid and wanted all the control of the band. He didn't want a strong front man involved he only wanted people he could control. Van Halen 3 was basically an Eddie Solo Album which is why it didn't work.. and that other album they did with Roth didn't work. Eddie is a great guitar player but that band needed a strong leader to take control without it, well it wasn't so great.

Him putting his kid in was the last straw for me. I had 0 interest in seeing that frankenstein version of the band, i'm very glad I saw them back when they had one of the classic line ups.

I dont know how you give the guy grief for looking out for himself in a band called Van Halen where he writes everything.

It is his band 100% so i dont know what cool aid he would be drinking. Without him no Van Halen.. you can put any singer in that band doesnt matter.

The rest is all money and bad management which is what screws up most bands..... he a nut for sure but thats the gist of it.

Michael Anthony has made millions upon millions off publishing he did next to nothing to earn.

And he fought to keep it later even when it was obviously unfair and based off papers they signed at 19 when they were clueless. To me that is the douche move.

Dude we know this isn't true. If it was true Van Halen 3 would have been just as good as every other album.. but it wasn't. Without a lead singer taking the reigns on song writing the band was unable to find success again. Clearly Eddie Van Halen wasn't the one-man creative driving force.. if he was where are all the hit albums post-hagar? On the flip side David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar were able to record hits without Eddie. Being a great guitar player will only get you so far.

Yes, bad management in the form of the Van Halen brothers. I mean what's your premise here? Either Eddie is 100% in control and 100% responsible for its failings or not?

Sure, if being an active member in the band since its formation constitutes absolutely nothing?

Gary Cherone was a terrible choice... no personality (unlike Roth) and mediocre singer (unlike Hagar) Plus just plain goofy if you watch him onstage with them dancing like hes in the Bee Gees. :P

The band changed managers a ton of times.. the brothers didnt manage the band.

End of day what the issue was again was publishing money..... there are different ways people get paid in the music biz. Publishing relates specifically to songwriting.

MA was and would have made a ton of money anyways just being in the band but he clung on to his publishing deal because it was easy money and a ton of it.. he knew it wasnt fair. They had to fight him all the time so he got the boot.

There is a reason he always looks so happy... he sits on his ass and checks roll in for more money than you could imagine for songs he didnt write. Id be happy too.

if you wrote 100% of something and had to always give 25 percent of that to someone who did nothing you wouldnt care? Even if it amounts to millions over the years?

Im sure they did whatever they could to get money out of the old bass players pocket.

Best version of this if Ozzys bitch wife re-recording and replacing the original bass and drums on his first solos records so they didnt have the pay the original guys who wrote everything and played.

Literally rerecorded bass and drums on two of the most famous hard rock records ever. That is some dickish shit there.

No way Gary Cherone is a great singer. Have you actually heard any Extreme albums? He however was mis-matched with Van Halen plus it was Eddie completely calling the shots on Van Halen 3 which was basically a EVH solo record.. which is precisely why it failed. However if your premise that Van Halen was 100% EVH then it wouldn't have mattered.. but it did. In fact it showed exactly what Van Halen would be like if EVH did have 100% control.

Once again man I don't really get what reality you are following with all of this.
